Guest guest
Hi,,,I have been here a couple times before. I am 28 wks pregnant with my third child..first since wls. I am having a boy I was wondering if there are any other dsers out there..and if so, what vitamins do you all take? and are you taking any enzymes? My surgeon wants me to take Lipase, and enzyme to help me absorb protein, but it gives me the runs, and I am scared to take something like that...any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Robin Conners EDD 11-5-04 Aiyven Conners 3rd boy Lap DS 3-26-

That's my regiment from 3 months post-op out. they upped the calcium to 1500 mg when I was preggo and had me take trinsicon daily. I just this morning got my full lab workup and iron is a tiny bit high so I was told to go to trinsicon every other day again. All my levels are great and I'm so less worried. Other than the extra intrinsic factor in the trinsicon to help absorb the iron I wasn't recommended to take anything else. I know this might not apply to DSers but thought I'd pipe in with my regimen as it may be slightly applicable. I am still losing weight recently tho. My weight had stabilized with no loss from jan to april, then I got preggo 1st week of may and lost 8 lbs from may 7th to 2nd week of july. last week of july I lost 4 lbs and another 5 lbs in the last week. I am scheduled to see the dietician next week to make see if there is anything I can do to improve things as I don't want to be depriving baby of food (or myself) but it is SO hard to eat now. 2 bites and I'm nauseous. I had told myself it was okay to gain a little back! I sure didn't want to plan or accidentally slim down as my second trimester begins. anyway hope this info helps Colleen open RNY 5-9-03 361/222/160 EDD 1-23-

First time poster, 11 week lurker. :-) I am almost 3 years post op (9/4/01) DS and 17 weeks pregnant. This is what I am currently on with happy allocades from my OB and Dr. K.: 2 prenatal per day 2000mcg of folic acid 4000mcg of B12 2400mg of calcium citrate 1 regular multi vitamin at night I had my labs done about 3 weeks ago and everything was within normal range. My PTH was perfect and that was one of my major concerns as I have heard horror stories about calcium deficiencies. Best of luck. Guest guest
Calcium carbonate is the WRONG calcium for an RNY person and you are probably sabotaging your teeth and bones to make that baby. Have you heard the old phrase, " one tooth lost per baby " ? That's because of calcium deficiency, and I'm sure you don't want that to happen to you! Calcium carbonate: 1. requires at least one hour of exposure to stomach acid to become bioavailable. We have essentially NO stomach acid. 2. can help your body form oxalate kidney stones. 3. interferes with the absorption of iron. 4. can contain toxic heavy metals, including arsenic, lead, and mercury, among others. Calcium CITRATE is the preferred form of calcium for people with low stomach acid, according to the 1994 National Institutes of Health Consensus Statement on Calcium. A pregnant woman who has NOT had stomach surgery needs 1500 mg a day of elemental calcium from calcium citrate. Most surgeons who know about these things recommend 1500-2000 mg a day for non-pregnant post-ops, and 2500-3000 mg a day for pregnant post-ops. Please, CHANGE YOUR CALCIUM NOW. And as soon as your baby is born, have a DEXAscan done to determine the status of your bones and teeth, and how much bone you have lost. They may decide at that point to put you on a bone-building drug like Fosamax or one of the others. According to Dr. Hale, these medications ARE compatible with breastfeeding. Good luck. DOH!!!! thanks for the concern but no worries, I was having a preggo moment. I have religiously taken calcium CITRATE from my earliest post-op days and get it in religiously. I don't know why the baby sucks the brain cells right out of our heads, but the lil spud made me type the wrong kind. sorry for the confusion. I just had my labs done and thankfully everything is wonderfully medium-middle ranged of normal for everything except iron was a tad high so they took me back to trinsicon every other day instead of daily. nice to know I am not malabsorbing it. thanks Colleen
