Guest guest
Well, just joined this group...had been a member of GBF since my surgery on 9/29/03...anyway, here is my story...sorry if it is too long...Basically, I have two children from a previous marriage. My new hubby and I have been married for a year and a half...and he has no children, so we knew we wanted at least one more to complete our family. We talked about when to get preg and we decided on Spetember since we were going to be taking a cruise vacation and that would be close to a year for me since surgery. Well, I am now 6 weeks pregnant and I am excited, yet not like I was with my other 2. I feel almost selfish, because I have lost so much weight(126 pounds) and am scared of what will happen to my body. This preg was kind of a shock, because although we were not really planning on it happening so soon, we were also not doing anything to prevent it(I am just 10 months out of GBS)...Really came as a shock that it happened so soon, since I was so irregular. Needless to say my husband was really shocked. So far I have had two appts, Dr. is wonderful and will have me going in to see him every two weeks. My hormones are low and he said they should raising rapidly at this point. I think the reason I do not feel very excited is because this preg feels very risky and I feel like I am preparing myself for the worst...has anyone else experienced this? Anyway, I feel nauseous frequently throughout the day, but this is worse at night...even eating crackers tends to make me feel sick...I am so tired all the time and lay down on my desk at work during lunch to sleep...I am cold all the time even though it is a 103 degrees outside...well I guess that is enough for now, any advice about what I am feeling or anything else would be great.... thanks, hannah
Guest guest
Hi Hannah - I have so many of your same feelings. I am also new to the group - I only posted once I am 20 months post op (Gastric Bypass) I have lost 115lbs and am at goal. I am 7 weeks pregnant and like we my husband and I were planning for it, but never expected it to happen the first month we 'tried' We are thrilled, this is our first baby, but also very scared about the nutrition and the how my body will react. I feel like I should eat any time I am awake because I can still only eat such small amounts. I am taking my prenatals that were prescribed by my OBGYN who is aware of my surgery and is a high risk OBGYN. I know only time will tell, but we are in the same boat and sure could use the support!! Guest guest
First welcome to the group...second I might have a little bit of information to share since I was about the same length out as you are when I conceived. I had RNY 9/11/03 and found out I was preggo mid april. I had missed my monthly by a week and a few days when I took a home test and about died when it came back positive. I have no other children and honestly didnt think I could. I lost an ovary 6-7 years ago from PCOS. I too have had problems feeling selfish. In fact I even posted such a message here and had a great response with lots of support and encouragment. I had worked so hard to get the surgery and then loose 125lbs that the thought of gaining anything was frightening. The doctors had long talks with me about why I needed to gain and the benefits of it and then the group here gave great examples of how quickly they took the baby weight off. As of my last appointment I have only gained 3.5lbs and I am 19 weeks preggo. I had my US this week and we are having a boy and he is in the 85% for height and weight thus far. He is going to be a big boy.lol. I did experience morning sickness (all times of the day and night) and found that some foods agreed sometimes and sometimes they didnt. I have been extremely good with my vitamins and my labs have all been right on cue. It is a lot to go from being so heavy/obese to losing to preggo in less than a years time. Try to stay positive and get some help if needed. I know that my docs have suggested it several times to help me deal with all the changes I am enduring and this week I actually had my first appointment. The counselor is great and I can tell that she is going to really help me find me again. This way I can be the best me possible and the best mommy for when my little man gets here. Feel free to email directly if you like at londalou27@.... I would love to share information. ~HUGS~ Shalonda RNY 9/11/03 300/175/??? Now 18? Guest guest
Hi Hannah, Congratulations on your new baby coming. I think once the shock wears off you will be falling in love with the little one. I did not think I was going to get pregnant again since I had fertiltiy problems but I got pregnant again after GBS and just ahd a baby boy 2 weeks ago and he is a darling. I bet your hubby is thrilled he is going to be a daddy. Being pregnant after GBS is not really all that different as before, I actually felt better sith this pregnancy, I had NO swelling from fluid at all, it was great. I was very tired though but I am 41 years old. I did not make it to goal weight yet either so I was a bit worried about gaining the weight but I only gained 50 pounds and I know it could of been less if I left my cravings alone but everyone tells me I was all belly and still lost everywhere else too. My butt actuallu got flat, lol, never had that before. I think you will find this an easy and happy pregnancy once you feel a bit better. i was cold all the time too but that was my whole first year post op, had nothing to do with being pregnant at all. I am over that now though, Thank God, I was cold last winter even under an electric blanket. Good LUck to you and try to enjoy your pregnancy. Guest guest
Just remember that you only need 300 extra calories aday to sustain the baby. I am 6 months out of surgery and 13 weeks pregnant. I am also worried about getting enough in, but the baby will take what it needs. good luck Meridth Wife to Larry (02/22/02) Mother to Forrest (01/21/01) Expecting #2 02/14/05 Gastric ByPass 02/23/04 370/268pg/175 goalweight
Guest guest
Welcome! & congrats! We'll help ya, not to worry. There's some med literature on the home page you can bring to your practitioner. I'm a stepmom, too, & am 21 weeks along with our dream baby. Believe me, this 1st imer is all too familiar with nerves, though I'm calmer about the wls aspect, we just have to continue to be pro active. I had some 1st trim exhaustion too, hang in there, & it may be worth checking your iron & B12. Guest guest
Hannah, Since I am not pregnant (yet *crossing fingers*) I can't tell you I know how you feel but I can tell you I've thought about the same thing as far as " what will happen to my body? " After working so hard to get to goal (past goal actually) I wondered too about what will happen when I start putting the weight on if I get pregnant. Then I started reading here and realized that many other people go through this and they make it just fine. I think someone said you only need an extra 300 calories a day when pregnant? After reading the posts here for awhile I've realized that we, as WLS patients, are probably more nutritionally aware than most other people so we probably have an advantage to keeping the weightgain to a minimum and taking it back off quickly. Good luck to you, I'm sure as the days pass you will get more and more excited about your new little one that is on the way!
