I was group B strep positive, had antibiotics during my homebirth with Joanne, and then she and I struggled with thrush for ten weeks. I breastfeed the entire time WITHOUT any difficulty whatsoever (9 months). The only difficulty was getting a picture of him WITHOUT a purple mouth since he was on the gentian violet. Sorry you had such a rough time, but mine was comparatively easy beside your experience. God made us all different. Glad my experience wasnt as horrid as yours or I may have formulated a different opinion, but as I always encourage in this group... voice your own experience. No one can down you for that. My own experience----->>IV Antibiotics-> newborn thrush---> gentian violet-->purple mouth and nips for 12 weeks-->> no lasting effects of the thrush and the fashionable purple nips faded. Again, this is MY own experience and opinion as a medical professional and is never intended as advice.....better to get thrush than having a newborn die from untreated GBS (as has been known to happen). Generally, the worst thing is the baby most likely will develop thrush (white patches on mouth/tongue) which is cured easily enough as well. Relax... The group member asked for anything she could be told about the positive group B strep and I was trying to reassure her with my comments about antibiotics taking care of it since the thrush is what my son ended up with. It wasn't painful for he or I. Just made the picture taking a little difficult w/ a purple smile. Of course, no one wants ANYTHING wrong with their newborn, but I'd take thrush over strep anyday of the week. sheila
