Guest guest
Hey fellow nursemate, Curious....are they still using the gentian in the US widely? Reason I ask is that in my province, it is VERY difficult to get an rx for it these days. My two neices struggled with nystatin for months till my sis in law finally convinced the Dr to order the gentian...which of course, worked like a charm the first time.... Just wonderin'.... Guest guest
mary, Actually, here in my states, (KY and WV) the drug of choice is Nystatin. This was 10 yrs ago when I was given the gentian violet. If I can dig up some of his baby pics I will send them to you! Bless his heart. In all of his first year photos, he either has the purple mouth or the white thrushy mouth. lol He was such a happy baby though and just LOVED smiling for the camera. he didn't understand why we all laughed the more he laughed. lol My last baby boy (21 mos old) got thrush as well as the first one (I would say in my 1 dose of Ampicillin antibiotic pre-section crossed the breast milk. He was only one the Nystatin for 3 days though and it cleared him right up. Strange how the theory and practice of medicine changes when you cross the state/country lines! lol Hope all is well with you as well! We just had myringtotomy tubes put in yest and adenoids- he did exceptionally well until this evening when he began vomiting. Being the ever prepared nurse and Mom that I am, I had some phenergan in the fridge. Thank you for asking! Sheila p.s. I notice your EDC is 11/10. Mine was 11/11 after a LMP of 2/4. So you were close to then huh? lol
Guest guest
It's over the counter here, but you can usually only find it in " old-fashioned " pharmacies. When you do find it though, it's about $2. :-) Z Sheila --->gentian violet To: ossg-pregnant Hey fellow nursemate, Curious....are they still using the gentian in the US widely? Guest guest
Usually krogers will have it. You just have to ask for it. That's where I got it the last time anyway. Works great.
