Guest guest
Hi Colleen, I was in a state of ketosis throughout my whole pregnancy. I would get all crazy feeling anxious and lightheaded. The doctors told me to eat high fat foods with lots of carbs which of course is like speaking a foreign language to a gastric bypass patient! I lost weight throughout my whole pregnancy and had my son 3 weeks ago and am still dropping weight really steadily. My husband literally filled the house with foods I cannot resist. I kept protein bars in my purse and ate them when I thought about it or when I felt ill. Eating became like a job but no matter what I ate the weight would still come off. Just do the best you can and take your vitamins if you can. I'm having a hard with food still but in the opposite way now....I'm constantly hungry but then again I am breastfeeding a growing bouncing baby boy! Chrystal Wife to Jace - together 6 Years! Happy Mommy to - 4 Years Old! Baby Jonas Born August 2, 2004 8 Pounds & 8 Ounces! Zookeeper for 2 big dogs and 6 cats who let me feed them! http://chrystallife.50megs.com/ http://members.ebay.com/aboutme/seeswensonauctions/
Guest guest
Hey Colleen, How do you do with Carbs? Can you eat sweets (not candy, but something like a muffin?) Usually upping the carbs will take you out of ketosis...

They have me trying to eat 6 grain/pasta carbs, 6 fruit carbs plus 6 veggie carbs oh yes, plus 2 beans/nuts servings as well. that's in addition to 11 protein servings and 4 fat servings daily. and these are normal people servings not post-op size oh boy, this all adds up to an all you can eat buffet that I could only have handled pre-op hahah! anyway mostly I don't like carbs. I've been doing okay snacking on pretzels, and I started today with some cheerios for breakfast. a muffin would just hurt my tummy I think, I can do toast if I cut it super thin (like cutting a piece of bread in half widthwise first) especially if it has cinnamon on it. that smell seems to calm my nausea for some bizarre reason. I read up a little bit more on the ketosis during pregnancy and one site made it seem like it's the biggest risk to baby in the first 12 weeks and mine triggered at week 15 so I won't be kicking myself for maybe hurting my baby. I'm doing my best now to eat everything I am supposed to, but other new mommies, just do your best and be sure to get enough calories in so you don't get in the same mess I'm in Colleen

Guest guest
Sorry you're going through a trying time, Colleen. Bed rest has got to be maddening. About getting in more cals, how about some nice homemade blenderized soup or some fresh smoothies. Hang in there, honey.
