Guest guest
Sheila, No you have not confused me. It makes me feel better b/c I wasn't aware that a 4,5,6 or 9 pound baby would be ready (lung or any other internal organs)would/could be AS healthy and fully developed regardless of the weight size. I was thinking that weight size equaled a fully healthy baby, Your words helped!! ~ita > weight has no bearing on how mature (healthy) the babies lungs are. > You can have an 8# baby w/ immature lungs, but a 5 pounder with mature > lungs. An amniocentesis will tell you if the fetal lungs are mature > thereby reducing immeditate and future respiratory distress/disease in > the baby. A 6 # baby is a good sise baby. We see 2-3-4 pound babies do > well all the time in NICU. It's mostly dependent on fetal lung > maturity, not weight, so don't get yourself worked up until you have > the amnio (or amniotic fluid tested for maturity). > > Does this makes sense or have I confused you more? > > Sheila L & D/NICU RN
