Guest guest
Hi Sheila, Been doing some reading...trying to be the dispassionate RN and not the first time Mommy to be...I am 30 weeks tommorrow and I believe Little Miss is still transverse. I listen to her fetal heart tones and can hear them on either side of my abd, hence think I am hearing both the top and bottom part of her back. Also adding to my thought she is still transverse is how she feels (yes, trying to do Leopolds maneouvers on myself..lol)...Clue #3 is that I am measuring small (by my estimates 28 cm when I am standing up)... So, from what I have read, babies will turn in the 7th month if they are going to...I am fast approaching this...I know that if she stays transverse, I will have no option but a section, but was wondering... In your L and D experience, how late have you seen them turn? Do they try external versions with transverse presentations? The thought of that doesn't thrill me.. Anyway, I am hoping she will turn...Have my 30 week OB appt tommorrow so will see what the good doc says. Hope all is well with you and yours... Hugs,
Guest guest
, I know that you asked Sheila about this but I thought I would jump in. Hannah was transverse till I was either 36 or 37 weeks, can't remember which. My doc said on one visit that he was going to give her one more week to turn and if she hadn't then he was going to do the version, luckily she turned the DAY before the appointment!!! He told me that she was getting close to that late date but he had seen tons of babies in his 30 plus years of delivering babies who turned once he gave em a week, LOL!!! I wouldn't sweat it too much since you have lots of time left. Guest guest
> Hi Sheila, > > Been doing some reading...trying to be the dispassionate RN and not > the first time Mommy to be... *lol* I spend 9 months trying to be the mommy-to-be...not the midwife. *wink* >I am 30 weeks tommorrow and I believe > Little Miss is still transverse. At 30 weeks...babies don't HAVE a position. They are still flipping and flopping and moving around so much at 30 weeks that you can't even assign a position to them because it can change in under 15 seconds (litereally). We don't worry about baby's position until 36 weeks. In fact, we don't Leopold's until 34 weeks! (unless mom or dad are curious " what is that right here that I keep feeling?) >I listen to her fetal heart tones and > can hear them on either side of my abd, hence think I am hearing both > the top and bottom part of her back. are you using a doppler or a fetoscope? If you're using a fetoscope...then yeah...you're probably right. If you're using a doppler....a doppler picks up the heartbeat basically anywhere (and I can usually get the heartbeat in 3-4 places with the doppler. Not just cord sounds but actual hearbeat. Doppler is horrible for confirming position) > Also adding to my thought she is > still transverse is how she feels (yes, trying to do Leopolds > maneouvers on myself..lol)...Clue #3 is that I am measuring small (by > my estimates 28 cm when I am standing up)... > why would you do this standing up? You can't do an accurate fundal height measurement while standing up.... > In your L and D experience, how late have you seen them turn? I know you're asking Sheila....and she's got a lot of experience to share... but I thought I'd help answer this as well.... I've seen them turn as late as while in labor, >Do they > try external versions with transverse presentations? The thought of > that doesn't thrill me.. > Yes... although, interestingly enough, external versions for transverse lie are actually less successful than for a breech. You'd think it would be easier since they are already " halfway there " ...but it's not. the good news is that you're nowhere near the point of worrying about the position of your baby. the other good news is that even if the baby does decide to stay transverse past 36 weeks, there are things you can do at home to encourage good position that are easy and have high success rates before even considering a version. (this is part of the reason we don't leopold's until later...because baby is so likely to have a " malpresentation " at this stage that it can cause needless worry to the mom without any benefit. Thre's no reason to know how baby is lying at 30 weeks at this particular moment...because it doesn't mean anything....) Guest guest
Snook_zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!! I apologize for the delay in reading and approving messages today. We left the house at 9am for 3 Dr's appointments (to WV, back to KY, back to WV then back to KY for the last one) then my oldest had a football game (they lost :*() so I am just now getting to reply. In a nutshell..... what said. lol She saved me alot of typing and I'm glad cause I'm pooped. Never fear and *try* not to worry (again, this coming from a L & D RN who checked her glucose, BP and fetal HR EVERYDAY at work- and on slower days I'd grab a resident to do a quickie US on me- lol) Relax..... everything will be fine.... I just know it will.... all that flipping and dlopping that you feel will continue for the next 8 weeks at least (hopefully) and Lil Miss Snooky will come out head first! Hugs!
