Guest guest
Happy Sunday to everyone. I had my first OB apointment this past week. My due date is April 25th. He didn't attempt to listen to the heartbeat, so we'll check for it next visit. I was scolded for not drinking enough. He could tell by my urine sample that I was dehydrated. This is a constant problem for me. Y'all, please tell me how you drink enough fluids. I used to be able to GUZZLE water BEFORE my RNY, but now, with my stomach so small, I can't hold a lot of liquid before it starts to back up on me, and become very uncomfortable. Also, my other problem is that I am always constantly FREEZING COLD. So the mere thought of drinking ice cold drinks is just too horrible for words. And I can't drink room temperature drinks, that's disgusting. So..............how do y'all get in enough liquid in a day? I probably only drink about 12oz a day. I know, I know, that's horrible. I really need help in this area. MY OB also told me that I do not need to double up on my vitamins. He said that my prenatals are enough. But I know a lot of y'all have said that you're DRs are requesting that you continue to take the vitamins that you've been taking post-WLS and also ADD your pre-natals. I visit with my RNY surgeon on Thursday for my one year check-up. I'm definitely going to ask him as well. My OB is not concerned about weight loss during the first trimester. I've already lost 5 pounds this past week. He doesn't see me gaining more than 10 pounds during the entire pregnancy. I find myself constantly hungry, so I try to eat every 2 hours. Nothing major, pretty healthy stuff, but man, are the hungry pains ravenous!!! I had a c-section with my daughter 9 years ago. My OB asked me if I wanted another or if I wanted to try for a vaginal birth. He said either was fine with him. I told him I wanted another section. He said, " no problem " . He told me not to lift anything heavier than 20 pounds--not a problem. LOL K............gonna go swimming now. Kim in Texas 400/229/170 EDD 4/25/05 7 weeks preggo!!!! Guest guest
Kim, Congrats to you. I just took a HPT yesterday and have a positive result. My due date would be May 17 so I am a few weeks behind you. Have you ever had these " Fruit 2 O " drinks?? It is like flavored water. It is made with Splenda so I think it is okay for the baby. They can be a bit pricy, wose than pop. I get a case at Sam's Club and I think it is like $10 for 24-16 oz bottles. They have 4 different flavors in each case. I have had a HORRIBLE time getting water in since surgery but these buggers help. I like the fruity flavor and they have no calories. I am a coffee and diet pop drinker. I guess I should say WAS! I normally drink about 24-32oz of coffee every morning and probably the same in pop. Now I am trying to keep the same intake with these new drinks. Yesterday was a tough day not having my caffine, but I gotta break the chains for the new addition! Good luck! Jeanette in IL Lap RNY 5-9-03 264/145/135 (after baby!) Guest guest
Kim, I'm in the EXACT same position you are. I can't ever drink enough and if it weren't for hot days, I probably wouldn't get the water in I usually do. This is difficult for me too, I'm open to advice! My problem, I seem to be thristiest when I get ready for bed and have a bottle of water next to bed, then I'm up peeing all night double duty! ~Sandy RNY Dr.Caruana - 5/21/03 330/198 Expecting #1 - 3/17/05 ======================================================= moderator note: unfortunately (fortunately? lol), I was severely anemic and craved ice. I ate 1/2 gallon of ice on a normal day. This was in ADDITION to drinking milk, water, and an occasional pepsi. I, in no way wish you to be anemic, but THAT was my driving force in getting in enough fluids. I checked several restaurant equip places and was SERIOUSLY considering buying a commerical ice machine for our home (it had to be the right size, shape and denisty-lol). Thankfully, after 18 IV iron infusions, I no longer crave ice. Weird things our body does to us, right? Best wishes!! If you like ice, nibble on it all day in additional to trying to get in your fluids. It adds up!~ Sheila
Guest guest
hey kim, congrats on a successfull first OB appt. my Dr doesn't want me to double up on my vitamins, but my supplements. too much vitamin A (which all multiviatmins have and prenatals) have a lot of vitamin A. so i take 2 flintstone vitamins and then i supplement...i have viatmin C, calcium, folic acid, and viatmin B. i'm low in all of that tho, if your labs are fine, then don't worry about it. as far as water, i'm right there with you. not only can i not drink a lot, i throw up what i do take in. i'm dehydrated and it has possibly been the cause of my kidney infection. keep a bottle of water with you at all times and sip on it constantly. i'm very cold all the time and yet can't stand luke warm kiquid either...try non caffinated herbal tea?! try drinking diet snapple, or crystal lite. at elast if you leave those out on the cabinet, they aren't cold, but they have flavor, so maybe they will be good luke warm? jsut some ideas...me, i jsut keep water next to me at all times and try to sip all the time and i like non caffeniated hearbal tea and crystal lite...also juice. all you can do is try. trust me, you don't want to continue any farther in your pregnancy being dehydrated. i'm having a very hard time. i'm 16 weeks. get used to getting all the liquids now...you are not alone tho, i'm freezing all the time (everyone tells me it's becuase i'm loosing all my padding) and i can't seem to get in the water. aka mom2ben99 (jennilee75@...) Guest guest
Kim you certainly need to try to drink more for you and the baby. Try drinking decaf tea - warm always used to be better for me than cold in the beginning. Also try jello - that way you are eating it. I have no problems drinking my self so that is all I can suggest(I could get 32 oz in in one hour if I wanted to) As for the weight I am now 39 weeks along and at first lost weight but now weigh about what I did the weekend I got pregnant which is a 10 lb gain from when I had my first ob apt. Dont worry about the weight at all - what happens happens and the most important thing is the baby and nutrition any way. Good Luck - Daine > Happy Sunday to everyone. Guest guest
Kim, I had this issue with my first who is now 4 pre WLS. I would go into pre term labor being dehydrated. It was so bad once my husband had to call for an ambulance. I was vomiting and had diarehha along with contractions. I was told this is a side effect of dehydration. It was not fun. They stick you with the biggest needle I have ever seen! Once they started pumping me full of fluids the contractions stopped. Drink anything and all that you can. Being post op I drink alot of decaf hot and ice tea. The hot tea feels good on my pouch Bobbie St. Louis TTC #2 > Happy Sunday to everyone.
