Guest guest
Terri, I have been told by my OB doc that I only need to be taking my prenatal vitamin. You can take too many vitamins and run your body down along with pregnancy. I am 15 weeks pregnant and I too am still tired. I get cramps when I do a little too much too, so I try to take it easy when I can...I have a 2 and a half year old. When he naps...I nap! I go to bed at 10 or 11 everynight(hubby works night and I make sure he gets in ok) and sleep until 7 or 8, sometimes 9 if I am lucky and I still feel soooo tired. This pregnancy is so different from when I had my son. Still talk to your OB doc and see what they have to say as well. I hope you gain energy soon along with myself. ;-) D. Guest guest
Hi ya'll... Terri in Texas here......OK.....I am now approaching my 15th week of pregnancy and I am still soooo exhausted. What I need to know is this......are ya'll taking prenatal vitamins PLUS a multivitamin ?? Currently, I take Calcium Citrate, a prenatal vitamin, and a prescription iron supplement (325 mg of ferrous sulfate). I do not take the iron every day though cuz it causes nausea......but I am sooooooo tired all the time. I am sleeping 12+ hours a night plus taking naps on weekends. That seems excessive. Of course I am approaching 40, I work full time and am enrolled part time in college and finishing up my final 3 classes......PLUS I have a teenage son who plays sports...so yes I am busy but so is everyone else.....why am I so tired? I am wondering if I should be taking my a Centrum PLUS a prenatal? I will definitely ask my OB's office...but I wanted some input from some fellow gastric bypass preggie friends here.......after all, ya'll know better than most what we need. So......tell me tell me........ zzzzz'ssss Terri in Texas EDD: 3-1-
Guest guest
Hi Terri, I just take my prenatal - 1X a day and that's it. I'm just as tired, although it seems to be getting better. I'm in week 13, work two jobs and have a 10 year old to keep up with, but I agree, busy is just busy. I think our bodies are just working overtime. I also have been lucky to not have any blood problems since surgery. I seem to get what I need from prenatals and food. Let us know what you find out from the Dr. though. I'd be curious to know. If there is something I can add to my regimen that will be safe and help with this tiredness, I'd love to know about it. ~Sandy RNY Dr.Caruana - 5/21/03 330/198 Expecting #1 - 3/17/05 -- questions on prenatals PLUS multivitamins...... Guest guest
hi terri and trust me, with my first son i was the same way. i swear i was only awake 4 hours a day! LOL...first of all to boost energy, try adding b-12 supplement or the B vitamins in general. 2nd, maybe you're body is jsut needing hte sleep and that's okay too. you can take too much vitamin Z and that causes birth defects, so my dr just has me taking 2 flintstone vitamins. try taking the b12 vitamin and see if that helps for a week or so? good luck! aka mom2ben99 (jennilee75@...) Guest guest
Hi Terri, DEFINITELY cover this with both your OB and your surgeon. Each one is expert in their zone but may assume the other knows enough about the combined needs and I found this isn't necessarily the case. recents labs came back with my iron a tiny bt too high so the surgeon said I should switch t just prenatals instead of the vitamin regimane I was one (1 multivitamin without iron, trinsicon iron/B12 every other day; 1 mg folic acid, and 1500 mg calcium daily) so the OB chose Cal-nate for me, one of the few prenatals that uses calcium citrate. they didn't have the breakdown for me of what is in it so I looked it up myself and immediately went back onto my previous regimen. Cal-nate only has 125 mg of calcium citrate, a HUGE difference from the 1500 recommended for pregnant post-ops. It also had only 27 mg iron instead of the 40-65 we should be getting according to my surgeon. I went back to my previous regimen tunil i could talk to the OB in person instead of the assistant over the phone to decide what to do and i see her next monday. If I do decide to switch to calnate you can bet I'd still add calcium to it. My surgeon made the comment (on my answering machine) that it would be okay to short myself on calcium for the few remaining months of my pregnancy but he didn't take into account that I'd be breastfeeding 6 months after then trying to get pregnant again right away to have a second child before I turn 40. so there wouldn't be anythign short term about his theory. So just stay on top of both caregivers until you get the asnwers you need. we have to look out for ourselves and the babies inside us.
