Guest guest
Kim~ I know how hard it is to get your water in. I am now just over 2 years post op from WLS and 23 weeks preggo. Dehydration is bad, bad, bad....even when not pregnant. Heres my story......Last summer went to Six Flags, about 4pm, 90º, and had only had about 12 oz. of water. Felt fine, got in line for batman, after about 40 mins. told hubby I was feeling fuzzy, he said are you ok? Next thing I knew I was on the ground in the line, had paramedics working on me, and had passed out and came to a few times without realizing it. Hubby caught me when I went down, so I didn't injure myself. My heart rate was super high and my BP was really low. I ate some ice, rested in the medic building, and went home just thinking it was from the heat. Flash forward one month......I only had about a bottle of water and a diet coke (w/caffiene) and went to Target to pick up some film. Was standing in line at the film counter and started feeling " fuzzy " again. So, I sat down on the floor right away. Just then the clerk came to help me, I stood up, felt my body to go jello, and the next thing I knew I was on the floor with all the Target people freaking out. I passed out, hit my tailbone and my head HARD on the way down (no one there to catch me this time.) The paramedics came, and I called my hubby, and off to the ER we went. It took several nurses to get blood (usually I'm pretty easy) because I was so dehydrated my blood was like sludge- really thick. I was there a few hours, and had to get IV saline rehydration. Also had a HUGE goose egg on my head that took about 3 months to go away, and ended up with a chipped tailbone which hurt for a good 6 months. Moral of the story........you HAVE to drink no matter what. I was SO lucky that I didn't pass out while driving because I would have killed myself and someone else. I have never been so scared in my life. I'm not writing this to scare you (well, maybe a little bit) but I just want you to understand how important it is because I have been there, and now you have baby to think about too. One thing that has helped me is to drink my water at room temp. It's easier on my pouch. I also only drink bottled water because everything else tastes like crap. Also, try making decaf iced tea and sweeten it with splenda or lemon, whatever you like, that way you get decaf, no calorie liquids in without just plain " water " . Throw in a fruit 2-0 now and then for a change. And sip, sip, sip all day. I hope this helps!!! C. WLS 8/28/02 EDD 12/31/04 Subject: 7 weeks with some questions Happy Sunday to everyone. I had my first OB apointment this past week. My due date is April 25th. He didn't attempt to listen to the heartbeat, so we'll check for it next visit. I was scolded for not drinking enough. He could tell by my urine sample that I was dehydrated. This is a constant problem for me. Y'all, please tell me how you drink enough fluids. I used to be able to GUZZLE water BEFORE my RNY, but now, with my stomach so small, I can't hold a lot of liquid before it starts to back up on me, and become very uncomfortable.
