Guest guest
We have an Autism Behaviorist in our school district who has knowledge of ABA, and works in the younger grade ABA classrooms. My son, though, is in 4th grade and those ABA styles of learning are unfortunately, not implemented. Long story behind that - something that I am not please with. Back to your question. Mehl gave a great overview. Although my son did not/does not have severe behavior issues, ABA therapy worked wonders in Kindergarten with potty training. It also has helped at home. We are currently finishing our school year using trials teaching (discrete trials teaching is the ABA form) with his sight words, and it is working very well. So well that we decided to NOT send him to summer school and get much better, more intense services through C.A.R.D (http://www.centerforautism.com/). They will work with him 4 days a week on different areas, including Executive Function skills. There may be on in your area. Good luck.
