Guest guest
I'm not familiar w/ the DS (?) surgery, but the gas and stool from the open RNY surgery isn't very rosey smelling either. lol My hubby says it " lingers " for a while. lol My advice.... as the baby comes down the birth canal, it's inevitable that he/she will push out gas and oftentimes some stool. I would buy a small purse size " Bath and Body Works " home spray fragrance to squirt here and there as long as no one in the room has asthma. If you know when you are going to the hospital, use some beano. As for the stool coming out with pushing, sometimes if you haven't had a BM for a day or so, you will push some out. At our hospital, we squirt liquid soap or betadine on it and just wipe it away to the trash can below catching all of the *gunk* that comes out with delivery. You really dont smell it because the soap smell/betadine hospital type smell takes over quickly. I have had several pts bring their small $5.00 purse size concentrated room spray from Bath and Body Works and have one of the assigned people watching the delivery give a squirt every 30 minutes if the gas is bad. Be certain to ask if the nurse or Dr doing your delivery isn't allergic to certain sprays though, or you may create a bigger problem! Not a problem and we think NOTHING of it.... its all a part of God's " Big Picture " and " major Plan " .... something as large as a baby cannot push through the reproductive/gastrointestinal tract without causing a little stink. (pun intended)lol Sheila L & D RN

Guest guest
I worried about this ALOT in the weeks before I delivered. (I am a DSer) You can even see me on the video that my sister shot in the delivery room, asking the doctor about it because I was so worried that I would be embarassed. The doctor assured me that it was no big deal and she had seen and heard it ALL before! In the end (so to speak) I had nothing to worry about. Nothing embarassing happened. I think I was so careful about what I ate (almost strictly proteins) in the last few days. That is really my best advice. Eat what is easiest on your tummy when you get close to delivery and then stop worrying about it! Once you get in the delivery room you will be so focused on the birth that nothing else will matter! Good luck! STEPH
