Guest guest
Hi new to the group and need some help I had my bypass May 2003. I got pregnant in Feburary unplanned but it happened, So far I gained 13 pounds and I am 31 weeks. I was forced to do the 3 hour glucose test, which is 10oz of the sugar syrup in 5 minutes then they check your sugar levels every hour. Well the fasting draw was fine, the 1 hour (which I dumped terribly was a little elevated) the 2 and 3 hour draw where fine. So now they are trying to make me do it again. What do they think I mean in the first hour my system was in shock. Did anyone else go through things like this? What did your ob do for you? I was never Diabetic with my other 2 sons Help Jessie ============================================================================ Moderator note to Jessie: NO ONE can MAKE you take the Glucose tolerance test. You can refuse and there are other alternatives to taking this test. They can check your blood sugar first thing in the morning, then repeat it 2 or 3 hours after you eat a sensible breakfast. We aren't supposed to take this test because it can make us terribly ill. (as you discovered) and since we absorb glucose differently now than NORMAL patients, the results are worthless and invalid. Before you know it, they'll have you on insulin injections that you don't need b/c of an invalid test result. You can refuse ANYTHING. It's YOUR body and YOUR baby! Guest guest
Hey there. Although I had the DUODENAL SWITCH WLS, I don't have the " dumping syndrome " , my OB thought it wasn't in my best interest to do that test where you drink the sweet stuff (plus I dont think I would have been able to make it through it without barfing)..so I am doing it through fasting and then getting my blood drawn..diabetes runs in my family (and then of course there is gestational diabetes that develops when one gets pregnant) although I have been blessed not to have the omen carry down to me at this point...so you DO NOT have to drink that stuff because there are other options as mentioned before.. -a (Houston, TX) WLS 08/13/03 EDD 03/29/05 " dolphinbabe1975 " <soon2bemommyto3@a...> wrote: > Hi new to the group and > need some help > > I had my bypass May 2003.
