Guest guest
My son has done well on custom probiotics d lactate free. We did see some die off initially. He also has crazy yeast problems all the time. We do not have confirmed PANDAS yet either. He has had clostridia, Citrobacter, klebsiella, strep strains in stool... We just added in Culturelle and plan to add in one from Klaire too to overwhelm the bad. He is on 9 baby scoops of CP probiotics to overwhelm the bad. We started on 1 baby scoop and worked up over time. We had issues with GSE too. We also just started viracin, plant tannins. My DS did not do well on nystatin, better on diflucan. He has responded well to Alinia (formed his stool) and bactrim seems to be helping with strep, Citrobacter and klebsiella now, but we have majorly upped the probiotics to combat the antibiotics killing off the good. We also started LDN last week and I believe it is having a positive effect on his mood. We are also on diflucan right now. I feel like we deal with one thing and another crops up, but we had a good night tonight. I revel in every good day... Hope you find healing soon! > > Hi everyone, > > I am still in the process of trying to figure out what my son's real issues are. I have been maintaining a log and very closely monitor everything but there is so much overlap in symptoms, it is hard to tell what the exact issue is. My son started prescription antifungals in october 2011 and since then he has been miserable. We attributed it to gcmaf, then clostridia, then pandas/pans and so on. Now recently whenever I took him off diflucan, he had a few good days. As soon as I would start him back on diflucan, he will have a couple of good days and then would have increased ocd, tantrums, acidity, worsening sensory issues. We have been using zithromax for his possible pandas diagnosis which has not been confirmed by any labs so far. That has caused yeast flares. OAT supports the yeast diagnosis as well. Since my kid was on zithromax, fluconazole and oral vanco, we started transdermal NAC to help the liver. It definitely calmed him down and made him happy but yeast loved it. So we are constantly trying to promote his yeast with zithromax and vanco and he doesn't do well on antifungals. I am not even sure if he has pans or not. Whatever is happening this year has never happened before. He is off vanco and fluconazole this week and I decided to replace culturelle with custom probiotic. He received his first dose yesterday and was calm right away. Even had a two hour nap in the afternoon which never happens. Today was a rough day for him as he had stomach ache after lunch and dinner. I am only using the child scoop and he weighs 72 lbs. He got very chapped lips today, was thirsty and obviously had heartburn. Is this die off? Is there an overlap between pandas/pans symptoms and yeast die off? I didn't like nystatin and even diflucan. I am trying to gradually increase custom probiotics and see how that goes. I am tired of using diflucan and strongly believe that it has given my son some form of neuropathy in his feet and hands. Now he is off diflucan for four days and today his writing was much better. I want to try naturals once again for yeast but he is very sensitive to phenols. I tried candidase but he couldn't tolerate it. We have used candex in the past without any negatives so I am thinking of giving it a try again. So should I continue with custom probiotic and candex and see if the combo helps? Can anyone help me figure this out that whether my son has pandas/pans or it is indeed the yeast beast? His workup indicates yeast and the onset of symptoms was after starting the antifungals. The reason I want to figure this out is because I want to stop using azithromycin as I don't see much benefit and get a very bad yeast flare. > > I know a lot of you use GSE for yeast but my son has serious phenol sensitivity. What other naturals are an option here? I am so tired of seeing my son miserable and really getting exhausted explaining to the relatives and friends what is going on with my kid. I would really appreciate any input. > > Thanks > is >
Guest guest
My son has Pandas and when we treat yeast we have to go very slow. If I'm aggressive we have a Pandas flare with tantrums, aggression and OCD'S. My son used to have phenol issues but GSE he does ok with. It helps with both the Pandas and yeast. He is also on Cefdinir long term which is working for now. We hope to fade it out but I'm scarred!Sent from my iPhone Hi everyone, I am still in the process of trying to figure out what my son's real issues are. Guest guest
, how did you get rid of phenol issue? I would love to try naturals but phenol sensitivity is a big problem for my son. He was a responder to curcumin but had to stop it as after a few weeks, he would start having all crazy phenol sensitivity symptoms. How do you tell that the behaviors u see from aggressive yeast treatment is pandas and not clostridia? Have you ever used oral vancomycin? It is so hard to differentiate between clostridia and pandas. My kid doesn't have any positive tests for either. I just finished a two week course of vancomycin for him and he is a bit better. I don't see much result with azithromycin. The good thing about vancomycin is that it doesn't kill the good lactobacilli. Please let me know how your kid started tolerating phenols. Tammy, I looked up candida diet and it seems doable. I will give it a try but first have to read about it a bit more. Guest guest
We started to go up after one week. We did one scoop in the am and one in the pm. that was good for some time but when we got bad bacteria, c diff, yeast, and diahrrea we went up again to normalize stool. When we are on abx, we go way up. These are the best probiotics for my son. Go slow, wait at least 4 or 5 days between increasing and see what works best for your son. LDN was for autoimmune issues and major GI issues and inflammation. We are hypothyroid, always high inflammation in GI and low seratonin. We are only on 3/4 pill at 1.5 mg and stools have normalized and he is happier and more social . We've only been on it for less than 2 weeks. I am hopeful about this one! > > > > > > Hi everyone, > > > > > > I am still in the process of trying to figure out what my son's real issues are. Guest guest
is - we also use custom probiotics dlactate. I started at 1/2 scoop and went up from there. Yes we had crazy die-off. If you have clostridia and want to avoid vanco, you can use lactobacillus gg and saccromyces boulardi. Which pandas tests have been done on your son? Have you tested for a wide range of infectious triggers? There are many potential infectious triggers than can cause pandas. It is helpful to test for many at once. Many kids are struggling with a variety of infections at once. Also - infections are whacky in that some can cause pandas-like symptoms directly; it doesnt necessarily have to be an autoimmune situation Read Madeleine cunningham's work. She explains the mechanism for how some infections can cause difficult behaviors by driving up dopamine and glutamates. Some infections can even find ways to turn off your immune system. This can cause an environment that makes it easy for multiple infections, yeast, or other pathogenic bacteria to proliferate. Have you checked immune function? I hate that your son is struggling. > > > > Thanks > > is > > >
Guest guest
Thanks Ruth. We are awaiting results for mycoplasma, HHV6, lyme, ebv. I am gonna check for CMV also. Aso and dnase titers are negative twice already and we never got a positive culture. Vancomycin helped a little but we see the benefits after we complete the two week round and take the 1 week off. We have to start the round this weekend again and I will have to add the diflucan which either has caused a lot of problems from flaring clostridia or caused neuropathy itself. Whenever my kid is on diflucan, his sensory issues get worse. Few weeks ago he could not even open his hand and kept it like a fist all day. Once I started vanco, his symptoms improved. I will see how the next round of diflucan + vancomycin go. I always wonder if diflucan causes more issues because of the non-medicinal ingredients. I looked it up and commercial diflucan contains sucrose, sodium citrate dihydrate, citric acid anhydrous, sodium benzoate, titanium dioxide, colloidal silicon dioxide, xanthan gum, and natural orange flavor. May be the natural orange flavor is an issue for my phenol sensitive kid. Does everyone get their diflucan compounded? I am really hoping the custom probiotic will help my kid. The first day we started it, he seemed calmer. Second day he seemed to have crazy die off and third day was awesome. Today was the fourth day and was so so and he seems very silly but more verbal though. Will go up on the dose soon. I will read Dr Cunningham's work Ruth. He aslo had other immune workup done which was pretty much normal. But he is getting a whole bunch of other tests done also. Thanks for help everyone. is > > > > > > > > Hi everyone, > > > > > > > > I am still in the process of trying to figure out what my son's real issues are. Guest guest
hi alexis,we have all our antifungals compounded through lee silsby. after you get your probiotic up, you may want to consider changing antifungals if you plan to continue. I know my kids didn't tolerate one of them (amp even though it was made "clean" and diflucan wasn't very effective for either of them....i was recently going through their files and found their 3day stool test and interestingly it showed for oliver he was resistant to both diflucan and sporanox (and this was done before he had started any antifungals). I am hoping the new one we just started which showed he was suseptible to will work (ketocanazole). anyway, hope your probiotics help! This has been the most effective for us -- alot of it and two times / day.good luck! Guest guest
Hi alexis, yes, we are still doing the 3lac/vsl#3 combo. it seems the most effective for us. i even tried to bring it down a little for both of them and their behavior/stool worsened so we are keeping it as is for now....haven't retrialed cp11 with them either...maybe down the road will try that one again or another one... To: mb12valtrex Sent: Thursday, June 28, 2012 12:37 AM Subject: Re: pandas/pans or yeast die off?? Badly need help with yeast Thanks . I will either try compounded fluconazole or switch to some other agent. There is a lot of resistance to fluconazole as it is the most widely used antifungal. I used it myself for a month for an infection several years ago and it made me miserable and didn't even take care of the issue. Our dan has suggested amp B as it is non-systemic and is effective usually. But just like your kids, my kid is very sensitive to meds as well as naturals. I have heard good things about ketoconazole from other parents. I hope it will work for your kids. Are you still using VSL 3/threelac or you switched to custom probiotics? I am really hoping that these probiotics will help my kid's gut. It is definitely causing a lot of die off but his moods are somewhat better than when he uses fluconazole. Hope we will all find answers for our kids. is > >> > > > > >> > > > Hi everyone, > >> > > > > >> > > > I am still in the process of trying to figure out what my son's real issues are. It definitely calmed him down and made > him happy but yeast loved it. I am tired of using diflucan and strongly believe that it has given my son some form of > neuropathy in his feet and hands. Now he is off diflucan for four days and today his writing was much better. I want to try naturals once again for yeast but he is very sensitive to phenols. I tried candidase but he couldn't tolerate it. We have used candex in the past without any negatives so I am thinking of giving it a try again. Guest guest
, I am glad vsl3/threelac is working for you. I used vsl 3 last year which gave him formed stool and we had a lot of die off. But then I never used it again because of the strep therm. I know it is a controversial subject. I then wanted to give threelac but it does have some casein. So just to be on safe side, I started d-lactate free CP. I wonder if it is as effective as vsl 3 for the oxalate issue. Hope it will work. is > > >> > > > > > >> > > > Hi everyone, > > >> > > > > > >> > > > I am still in the process of trying to figure out what my son's real issues are. Guest guest
Hi alexis, I am pretty sure 3lac has the same amout of casein as culturelle...i found this on leesilsby a few months ago but pls reverify. Also concerned still about the vsl and strep issue but I have brought this up to a couple practitioners and they've all recommended continuing esp since they seem to be doing well on it. Anyway hope the cp works well for you!!-- Sent from my Palm Pre , I am glad vsl3/threelac is working for you. I used vsl 3 last year which gave him formed stool and we had a lot of die off.
