Guest guest
About Baby BMs..... My dr suggested using Karo Syrup... Just put a little on your baby's bottle each time until the BM is released.. its just a little sweet syrup that helps get that stuff out.. It doesnt hurt him at all.. no cramps or anything.. just gets that poppy out.. Good Luck! ~Ginny, Proud Mommy of Wally and y Born 10-19-

Guest guest
I don't want to be discouraging either, but my stepson is 10 and we still have this problem - severely. As of today we are even going on almost 2 weeks without a BM. He eats wheat bread, fruit, applesauce, apple cider, drinks lots of water, has 2 fiberchoice a day, and we still battle this like crazy. It's not until he hears me " pretending " to be on the phone with the dr, requesting an enema that he miraculously goes. Uhhhhhgggg. If anyone has any ideas, I'm sure open to them! With my first baby, 9 years ago, this was a constant battle for us. She was always constipated, it ended up being a huge problem and she had to see a specialist for it. I was told by my pediatrician that true constipation is defined by a lack of a BM for 5-7 days, and then, when they finally do have a BM, it's hard, small pellets (usually accompanied by bood, because pushing out those hard pellets causes fissure in and around the anus). If they go that long w/out a BM, then have a normal BM (consistency wise), then they were never constipated. We tried the Karo syrup with Katelyn, the diluted prune juice, nothing seemed to work. We finally had to keep her in a medically induced state of diarrhea for 3 months so that everything inside could shrink (the tissues around the rectum) and heal. Just keep an eye on it. Letting her soak in a very warm bath would also sometimes bring on a BM, and we'd just let her go right there in the tub, then wash her up. She was an extreme case, though. She's now 9 and we still have to make sure that she eats an apple a day and food high in fiber and drink lots of water. I have to continually ask her, have you pooped lately? You never think that you have to worry about your kiddos pooping. You just assume, what goes in, will come out. Good luck. Guest guest
I think this is fairly common in newborns. My doc recommended Karo (which didn't work very well) or a teaspoon of milk of magnesia (which worked like a charm).. In any case, I never let my son go past 36 hours, but from what I read, it can be normal to go longer.. GOOD LUCK!! > Hello everyone! > > Robyn-I cannot remember if it was your little Emerson but someone a bit > back posted about their baby not having a BM for some time. Guest guest
Ivy, Are you breastfeeding or formula feeding? If baby is getting breastmilk they can actually go every time they eat up to several (and I mean several) days with out having a BM. Honestly, you really have to focus on whether the baby is not feeling well and when they do have a BM is it hard or normal. If its normal then don't worry. If its hard call the ped doc and see what they recommend doing about it. As far as the gas, ALL BABIES ARE GASSY! LOL!!! You really can't judge BM's based on having a gassy tummy (or butt as the case may be, LOL!). Since is so young I won't worry too much about the BM's yet. Axelrod Question about baby not having a BM... Hello everyone! Robyn-I cannot remember if it was your little Emerson but someone a bit back posted about their baby not having a BM for some time. My little has not had a BM since last Tuesday night. He is a very gassy baby; since he has been born the gas is terrible (he smells like a gastric bypass patient! Haha) but had BM's many times daily. I called the DR on Friday but then she returned my call after I got home from shopping and I couldn't call her back due to the office being closed. is acting normal except for a bit fussy now & then. my question is-is this normal (or should I be alarmed) and are there any things I can do to help him??? In one of my baby books it does state that at 30 days of age + BM's can be infrequent; sometimes only once every 5-7 days but I want to ask the Mommies out their about their experiences! Thanks! Guest guest
Sandy, I hope your not offended if I ask you this, but does your little guy have ADHD or some variant? The reason I ask is because my twin sister's youngest son (9 years old) has this problem and alot of it has to do with the fact that he doesn't stop to take the time to go when he first gets the urge, he just holds it. Usually he ends up finally going on Sunday night when my sis makes him wind down and take a bath before he goes to bed. So now he has this pattern that he at least goes once a week. Let me tell ya though there have been more than a few times that the toilet had to be unplugged, LOL!! Axelrod Re: Question about baby not having a BM... Guest guest
- I can certainly relate to the toilet needing unplugging - that's the only way I know that he really went! We play a game and he tells me he went, but low and behold, two day's later......the toilet needs attention. LOL As a matter of fact he does have ADD. He's had this problem for years. It s a nightly thing, to have to try to go potty each and every night. He litterally sits there for almost a 1/2 hour till he says he can't go. This kid just won't go! I'm not sure what to do. I don't know if an IV of fiber would even work! LOL We are working on it! Sandy -- Re: Question about baby not having a BM...
