Guest guest
Angelina, First of all, congrats on both issues!!! Secondly, I'm no expert but I think your OB is pretty much on the mark treating you as a normal patient. Maybe he needs to keep just a wee bit closer eye on you but for the most part you should be normal. For the first trimester the baby is gonna get what it needs regardless of what you are putting in body anyway. By the time you get to your second trimester your should be pretty adjusted to what you need to eat and will be able to eat a bit more so you still should be ok, just maybe try to get in an extra protein shake, the same will probably work for the last trimester too. Keep in mind you only have to take in 300 calories extra per day to sustain a healthy pregnancy. Since this all happened for you at once you really need to be diligent about drinking your water, eating healthy, and taking your prenatal vitamins (I take chewable ones prescribed by my OB). Also, don't worry yourself to death thinking you did permanent damage to your little one with all the drugs/meds you got while having your surgery and recovering. Truly if we all thought about all the " horrible " things we put in our bodies before we found out we were pregnant NOT A ONE OF US would sane by the time we gave birth. Please try to relax (I know easier said than done) and enjoy the many blessings you have gotten lately. Axelrod Pregnant During Surgery!! Hi Everyone, I'm pretty new here and have only posted once. I found out last Saturday that I was pg and saw my OB yesterday. He did a pelvic exam and said I feel like I'm about 8 weeks, which makes me pg before surgery. He said that he thinks I conceived the day before surgery. This is kinda scarey to me. Is it safe to go through all that on such a little being? He also said that I am going to be treated as a fairly normal pg because having the surgery doesn't make me high risk. What I don't understand is that I am 8 weeks pg and 6 weeks out of surgery. (Well, that's the guess I'm having a dating scan on the 29th to determine for sure). Isn't it a higher risk when you are fresh off the table? I love my OB and trust him, I know that he's had gastric bypass OB patients before because he works in the same complex as some surgical associates who perform the procedure and he knew a lot about what I had done, but I just thought that he would be more concerned. Anyway, what do y'all think? Should I just be normal? Guest guest
Yes, you should be just normal. And you really have nothing to worry about getting pregnant right before the surgery, because it is just technically a blob of cells. I wouldn't worry about. Just try to drink lots of water and get your vitamins in. Good luck. Guest guest
Angelina - Since the doctor is familiar with your surgery and has had patients with it before, I'm sure he will be the appropriate amount of optomistic and careful. I would bet he'll watch you closely but feels no need to alarm you or add additional stress to your pregnancy. I think that is a WONDERFUL trait in a doctor. The only real advice I have is to make sure you FEEL that your questions are answered. With my previous doctor, I felt like he was so laid back about my surgery and other health concerns (I'd had hodgkins lymphoma several years ago and was concerned about my low iron and hypo thyroid which are due to the cancer treatment). I kept him through my first post surgery pregnancy and started my second pregnancy with him, but when given the perfect opportunity to switch (he left the group to go to another office) I switched to a different doctor that I LOVE!!! She makes me feel like everything is fine, but still is taking a few extra tests and watching me extra closely. (which was a good thing since I'm having some preterm issues..I'm not convinced he would have caught them). I think your doctor is correct to let you know that you have the same chance as everyone else to have a wonderful pregnancy and hopefully he'll also do some extra watching when it's warrented. Congrats on your pregnancy!! Candy newlife080604 wrote: Hi Everyone, I'm pretty new here and have only posted once. I found out last Saturday that I was pg and saw my OB yesterday.
