Angelina -

Since the doctor is familiar with your surgery and has had patients with it

before, I'm sure he will be the appropriate amount of optomistic and careful.

I would bet he'll watch you closely but feels no need to alarm you or add

additional stress to your pregnancy.

I think that is a WONDERFUL trait in a doctor. The only real advice I have

is to make sure you FEEL that your questions are answered. With my previous

doctor, I felt like he was so laid back about my surgery and other health

concerns (I'd had hodgkins lymphoma several years ago and was concerned about my

low iron and hypo thyroid which are due to the cancer treatment). I kept him

through my first post surgery pregnancy and started my second pregnancy with

him, but when given the perfect opportunity to switch (he left the group to go

to another office) I switched to a different doctor that I LOVE!!! She

makes me feel like everything is fine, but still is taking a few extra tests and

watching me extra closely. (which was a good thing since I'm having some

preterm issues..I'm not convinced he would have caught them).

I think your doctor is correct to let you know that you have the same chance as

everyone else to have a wonderful pregnancy and hopefully he'll also do some

extra watching when it's warrented.

treated as a fairly normal pg because having the surgery doesn't

make me high risk. What I don't understand is that I am 8 weeks pg

and 6 weeks out of surgery. (Well, that's the guess I'm having a

dating scan on the 29th to determine for sure). Isn't it a higher

risk when you are fresh off the table? I love my OB and trust him,

I know that he's had gastric bypass OB patients before because he

works in the same complex as some surgical associates who perform

the procedure and he knew a lot about what I had done, but I just

thought that he would be more concerned. Anyway, what do y'all

think?

Should I just be normal?
