Guest guest
Hello to all! I hope that everyone is great. I just have a question for mothers that have/are breastfeeding. This is my second pregnancy and I would like to try breastfeeding & formula on this baby. I would like to try and see if I can breatstfeed. If I can, then I would like to breastfeed while we are at home and if we go somewhere then maybe have powered formula to mix up when baby needs to eat. Has anyone did/doing this? You can part-time breastfeed and part-time formula right? I know that you can fulltime breastfeed, but you have to pump into bottles, how long is that formula good for? I also know that you can pump into the little bags and freeze them until you need them. How long do you have to use the ones in the freezer? I just don't want to spend alot of money on the little bags to put breast milk in. Considering breastfeeding is all new to me. Any suggestions, answers, anything would be greatly helpful, useful and appreciated a lot! D. Guest guest
D! I breastfed(pumped) and formula fed my twins.. It worked out just fine. My memory isnt the best for remembering how long things last. I would suggest you call the hospital and talk to someone in the nursery. They were very helpful with me. I THINK breastmilk can stay out for 8 hrs at a time... and they can stay frozen in a deep freezer for 6 months, 3 months in a regular freezer. But like I said, my memory isnt the best with breastmilk cause I only did it for 3 weeks. With formula, once mixed it is only good sitting out for 1 hr... and I would leave it in the fridge already mixed for more than 1 day. ~Ginny, Proud Mommy of Wally and y Born 10-19-

Guest guest
I was told Breast milk is good up to 4 hrs out of fridge. I pump, but i pump right into bottles. I don't use bags. In the fridge, they are good up to 5 days and a few weeks in the freezer. My pediatrician told me it is ok to be a part time breast feeder. I told him sometimes i just don't have time to pump. He told me is still getting the benefits of the breastmilk. If i have to use formula, i use similac plus iron. So far everything is going smoothly. I cant actually " breastfeed " . He wont latch on, so im stuck pumping. Plus i start back to work in October, so im glad i was told i can use both my milk and formula. Hope this helped.
