Ivy, The pediatrician told me to use karo syrup with Emerson. He said to use

3 teaspoons a day, 1 teaspoon per bottle up to 3 times. It works well for

Emerson but each baby is different. Emerson only goes once a day but the doc

says

as long as he goes once he is fine.

and my pediatrician said NOT to use karo syrup with my kids because

of the (remote) chance of botulism...same reason not to give them

honey until they are a year old. and most of the IBCLC's I know (as well

as my kids' pediatrician) said that up to 21 days without a bowel

movement in a nursing baby is considered totally normal...

the bigger concern is what their LAST bowel movement was like. they

don't go from normal mustard yellow and seedy to constipated...there's

a progression where the stool gets firmer...then becomes " rabbit

pellets " ...then moves to constipation...

as with everything, it's good to do your own research, ask your family

doctor or pediatrician, and do what you feel is best for your baby....
