Guest guest
I spoke with a pediatrician, my OB, my surgeon, and a nurse who is also a lactacian consultant about this topic. I had the DS so nutrition is a bigger issue than with the RNY. It seems to be agreed that I will have to play it by ear, and keep my options open with breastfeeding. What you want is what is best for your baby, and if the baby isn't gaining enough weight, or you aren't getting enough of the things YOU need, then you will have to at the very least supplement with formula. I want to breast feed some no matter what, but as WLS patients, we have to be realistic and know that there are times when we ourselves don't even get enough of the nutrients that we need. We don't want that passed on to our children. Keep an open mind, and do what you can. Make sure the Pediatrician that visits you in the hospital in the first day or two is aware that you are a WLS patient and they will keep an eye on the babe's weight. Good luck, and I will post how things go with me when I get there. Jen
