Guest guest
Hi! I must say I couldn't face life without my good old-fashioned hot water bottle! I have needed one from childhood onwards to help to see me through my attacks. I am 59 to-day, BTW! That's a lifetime of hot water bottles! After several good weeks I have had a bad panc day to-day but just about managed to enjoy a concert this evening all the same, dosed up, as well as appreciating my cards and pressies. I will definitely need that hot water bottle to-night. I didn't eat anything different so I don't know what caused the attack except that I am just getting over a bad bout of flu and a chest infection and have been on antibiotics for 7 days; maybe there's a link there. The only disadvantage of the bottle is the mottling that can occur if you have it too hot. I have a delightfully mottled tum. I have read on one of the medical sites that this mottling is considered typical in CP patients. I wish I could remember which site discusses this; it gives the mottling its correct medical name too, derived from the Greek. The same site has a sketch of a CP patient in the typical position we often adopt, sitting bent forward, to try to alleviate our pain. Both the mottling and the bent-forward position make me a pretty typical CP patient according to this particular site! I have often adopted the foetal position too, clutching my bottle to me, as the only way to achieve a little relief. I'm sorry if anyone has negative experiences with heat as a source of relief. I generally advise people to try it (including warm baths) but we are all individuals, of course. Hope it doesn't happen again. With good wishes, Fliss (UK)
