Guest guest
HI - well, it has been nearly three months since I had my whipple surgery on 11/24/04. Here is an update on my health. I am feeling quite well, considering the surgery is not yet three months ago. I am feeling confident that I am cured. Time will tell, but I don't have any of the pancreatic pain that I have had for the past six years. I may be overly optimistic, but from what the surgeon described, he only left healthy tissue. I can eat anything and my " systems " seem to be working fine. I am back to work nearly full-time. My wound has totally healed - I have a gouge about two inches long that looks pretty gross, but the dr. said it will still fill in. I am still sore all across the middle and am to wear my abdominal binder for two more months. I take a vicodin at bedtime and in the a.m. and sometimes late afternoon. NO swimming or working out for another two months, at least. I am nothing but FLAB! I hate it!!! My red blood cells are back up but my iron is down. I am done with the procrit shots and now take an iron pill once a day. I don't go back to the hemotologist until May. Jerry and I are going to San Francisco on Thurs for five days so I can attend the NASSP (National Ass'n. of Secondary School Principals) Conference. If I get overly tired, I can go back to the hotel room and crash, so I should be fine - and Jerry will be there to remind me to take it easy! My oldest son lives in Fairfield CA, so I hope to see him while we are in CA. Here is a stress I had not counted on. Jerry's boss told him IN AN E-MAIL that he was going on second shift - 3-11pm. I guess she got mad at him (or someone higher up told her to do it) as he has been somewhat vocal on being bypassed for promotions. I don't know what else happened. Anyway, he got mad and transferred to a different dept. and now works third shift - 11 - 7am, I don't think it is any better, but time will tell... It is awful for a company to ask a 51 year old man to switch shifts after he has been on the traditional day shift for ten years! I know he had seniority, but I guess that didn't matter. We have had SO much rain in the past two weeks. We are to have rain all this coming week too. Everything is so green and the roads all have waist high weeds!!! It looks like the midwest. I imagine we will have tremendous wildflowers again. Cecilia Mesa, AZ Cecilia Mesa, AZ

Guest guest
I have been way to busy at work this month to post with school ending last week. I am six months post-whipple surgery and I feel GREAT. No pancreas symptoms AT ALL. I do have an abdominal hernia that I have having surgery June 15th to repair. I will fly back to Indiana to have my surgeon at the IU Med Center do the repair (I'd probably give the surgeon a heart attack out here when he opened me up and looked at my innards!) I am sure this will be minor surgery after the whipple and hope he finds that everything is looking well inside. I feel too good for anything else to be wrong. I just want to say that this group has been a lifesaver for me over the past five years. I will continue to be a member, even though I am " cured " from CP. Still have 75% of my pancreas means CP can rear its ugly head at anytime. I also hope my story can help others with health decisions and life choices. Thank-you, my friends, for ALWAYS being there for me! Cecilia Mesa, AZ
Guest guest
That is absolutely fantastic news. I am so very happy for you. Its about time huh, you certainly deserve it. Good luck with the hernia repair, will they be using mesh for the repair. Please dont think for one second that just because I had a difficult time with my hernia situation that you will too. I am by far the unluckiest person on earth and as I had told the surgeon I am the patient from hell. If something can go wrong, it will with me, never fails. Besides I had 3 major panc surgeries in 11 months, which had a lot to do with it. Just be prepared to take it very very easy for the month or so after the procedure. Take care and keep in touch,
