Not a severe but still had one. , From the way you asked your question about Creon 10, it sounded to me as though you may have thought that the Creon was meant to eliminate attacks all together. Perhaps I'm mistaken, that's just the way it sounded to me by the way you phrased it. I wanted to explain to you that Creon, nor any pancreatic enzymes, are not meant to eliminate pancreatic flare-ups or acute attacks. All they are is a digestive enzyme that's designed to assist the pancreas in food digestion by furnishing the enzymes that the pancreas would normally be straining to produce. By supplementing the pancreas' natural functions, use of the enzymes allows the pancreas to rest. This results in less pain after eating, and better absorption of the vitamins and nutrients we absorb when we eat. Some of the enzyme manufacturers, like Viokase, claim that there is a reduction of pain levels after eating, but this isn't the primary purpose of any pancreatic enzyme. Complete abstenence from alcohol, a low fat diet, and pancreatic enzymes taken with meals are three of the best ways to prevent attacks, but none are guaranteed. The pancreas still remains to be a mysterious gland that can become enraged by a whim of it's own, often times without any logical or known triggers. Enzymes will not prevent this from happening.
