Hair Loss through Malabsorption

I have been dealing with this silently for 6 months now, and was on

the verge of despair. Crying over it, my husband bless him said he

didn't care about my hair, but it did little to ease my mind, others

care and it's just not natural for a woman to bald out.

I thought it was lack of magnesium, so tried that to no

avail...caused more growth, but lost even more hair, reminded me of

during my pregnancy..grew longer hair, and had so much that it kept

falling out..not enough scalp to hold it all *L*

It still didn't help it to grow where I am thinning out. Then come

to find out that the stinky bowel movements i've been having, and

diarrhea are due to my pancreatic enzymes...even though I have been

told up until last week that I have no pancreatic damage...that I am

having Stetorrhea. I thought if my pancreas is fine, then this must

be because of the polyps in my stomach and small intestine doing all

of this.

Thanks to and a couple of personal friends who explained

to me that going on the enzymes hopefully will restore my hair

growth to thick and healthy because of the malnutrition i've been

experiencing has given me some hope.

Now I just need to go on the hunt for another GI. Especially when

this one said there is nothing wrong with your pancreas...I might

not be having much pain, but still having enzyme problems..

Gee, I wish I'd known about this sooner. I could have reassured you

that the hair loss was from the malabsorption, caused by the

stratorrhea, because of no enzymes.....

My hair, which then was mid back length and thick, fell out in clumps.

It was so bad that I'd go outside to brush it, or only brush it in

the bathroom, where I could immediately get down on my hands and knees

and scoop it up off the floor before someone stepped on it and it was

carried all over the house. The vacuum brushes were clogged with it,

and the drain in the shower would be full of these long strands every

time I showered. I had no idea what was causing it and was trying

everything to " fix " it.

Nothing made any difference until I got on the enzymes, and then, a

year later when it started again, until I had my thyroid levels

checked and found out I was hypothyroid.

I'm so sorry that you had to suffer with this concern for six months,

not knowing what was going on. Don't worry, it will all return to

normal within a few months. My hair is healthier, thicker, grows

rapidly, and is happier now than it has been in years!! My nails, too!!

With love, hope and prayers,

Heidi
