Guest guest
Chelsey, What are the plans for followup to monitor the pseudocyst? If they found calcification and a pseudocyst he will need to have a gastroenterologist treating him and monitoring his condition. It's good that he's been given something now to help with his pain, and that will allow him to rest. He may feel much better staying on a liquids-only diet for a few days until the inflamation settles down. Many of us have to do this, for days at a time, when we have serious flare-ups or attacks. It's very, very important that he drinks lots and lots of water each day, so make sure that you have a filled glass within his reach all the time, and encourage him to drink it. The pancreas gets dehydrated very easily, and can actually cause even more pain when it is, so proper hydration is essential. If he likes iced or hot tea, or other types of beverages like clear juices, ginger ale, or gatorade, that would be great for him, also. Coffee will only aggravate his situation right now, so try to get him to stay away from it. Once he's out of pain and feeling more spunky, make sure that he keeps his diet low in fats. Less that 30 fat grams per day. Have him stay away from eggs for a while, many people think they are okay to eat, but each egg actually has about 9 grams of fat in it, so that can add up quickly. Many of us also don't eat any red meat at all, since most of it is very high in fat. If you look in the " Files " section on the PAI yahoo groups main page, you'll find a suggested " Diet Tips " under the section titled " Nutrition " . You may find several good suggestions there on how to keep a diet low in fats, but still interesting. I have pseudocysts in my pancreas, which is what I believe your father has now, and have had a lot of experience with them. I also have ax extensive personal folder full of medical articles and research about them, so if you think there might be anything I could help you with in regard to that, or anything else, please email me.
