Guest guest
Ian, Hi and welcome. I just wanted to say that I too, have Chronic Pancreatitis that does not show up on CT's (yet), and Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction. I say yet, because my doctor (and me) both believe that it is only a matter of time til something shows on films. My SOD started with pain in the middle of my belly (where the ribs split), and radiated to the right, when I was first searching for a diagnoses. Of course this went undiagnosed for about 4-5 years. Once I was diagnosed with the SOD, I had the ERCP with manometry and had a biliary sphincterotomy preformed.(a cut only on the bile duct side). When my symptoms returned, I went on yet another 2 year hunt for a doctor until I found a specialist who preformed more tests and another ERCP with manometry (also on the pancreatic duct). I finally found out that the pressure in my pancreatic duct was VERY high, and so I have pancreatic SOD, which in turn leads to my constant left sided pain (re: chronic pancreatitis). So, yes you can have left sided pain with SOD depending on which duct is affected. I believe that since my pancreatic SOD went undiagnosed so long, that it now has caused the chronic pancreatitis. I have everyday pain, which I take pain meds for, and then I get those SOD attacks that come " out of no where " . The only advise I feel that I can pass along confidently, is to seek out a " specialist " / Either a pancreatologist or a GI specialist who is an EXPERT endoscopist. I don't know where you are from, but I'm sure you will get lots of referrals from the people on this board, to help you along with your search. This board is where I found my recommendation for my current doc, Dr. Lehman. He is one of the top endoscopist in the country. He is the first doctor whom I completely trust with my care, (and that is saying alot!). I hope you stick around and please ask any questions you need to. Take care Kris in TN
Guest guest
Hi to my friends Kurt, wanderingkara and everyone... Well, Im not sure what this means. But the agonizing anxiety attacks have reduced and now I am experiencing classic Pancreas symptoms Ive been reading about. Now I am feeling a constant feeling of something being under my left ribcage, and the pain is extending to my back. It is a dull pain which I feel depending on how I move around, and is worse when I am lying down. I also noticed my stools have increased alot in the past few days, pretty much since I started taking the Prilosec the ER doc prescribed me a couple of weeks ago. Once again I am worrying about the possibility of the worst, but hoping that this could be something I can at least live with. The pain is not bad, but the fear of what it is IS bad. I guess I would fall under the category of Chronic now because I assume Acute would have ended already. Anyhow, Im going to see a Gastro as soon as my insurance from my new job kicks in in a couple of weeks if I can make it. My only hope now is that since my CT scan with contrast in August came up fine, that im not in as big of trouble as I think. And that what im ultimately worried about can not develop that fast. (I dont even like to say the word). I have also noticed my urine is a little darker, but my stools, while bulky, are still brownish colored. Kurt, if I had to put together a dream system, it would probably consist of Logans as you mentioned, or possibly Mark Levinsons mated up with any of the variety of wonderful THX Ultra receivers out these days, though admittedly I havent been keeping up. I tell you what though, everyone pokes fun at B&O just like they poke fun at Bose, and with good reason BUT the other day I was in the Galleria in Houston and listened to a pair of what I believe were Beosound 5's and I was absolutely floored by them. He demoe'd a copy of Pink Floyd's TIME at very high volume and they didnt show even a hint of distortion. I believe they had a pair od 1000 watt amps in the base, plus 250 watt amps in the middle section for the mid range and then tweeters above. They were somethin else! Ian.
