Guest guest
I have made a raucous before in the ER. Waiting doubled over for 5 hours before a doctor would even get around to seeing me. Conveniently, the nurses buzzer wasn't working in the room I was in. So...... I called out very loudly for a nurse or a doctor..until one came in.... I still hate to make a fuss, but sometimes it just has to be done. Again, yours is a situation that I would be reporting to the higher ups. It isn't too late to do it also. They can find out the names of the staff on duty that night if you don't have it. If nothing is ever said, nothing will change. Regards, Ward PAI Administration Support Staff dceward@... Guest guest
Kara, I am so sorry for all you are going through. It is horrible when you feel mistreated at a hospital. The closest one to me is the same way. You go and wait forever and then don't get the proper treatment. I drive 45 min. to the hospital because they are so much better to me in the ER. When I had my first really bad attack I went to my local hospital and after 6 hours of laying in excruciating pain and vomiting the sent me home with tylenol with codeine and said we don't know what is wrong with you but if it gets worse come back. Well, I came home and tried to make it through the night and after a few hours I woke my husband up and told him to take me to Lexington. Which is 45 min. away. WE walked in there at 3 a.m. and within minutes they had me back and the doc pressed on my tummy and said get me morphine she has pancreatitis. I didn't have a clue what that was at the time. Then he ordered the bloodwork to confirm his diagnosis. He kept me in the E.R with him until all of the test were run and then watched me for a while before he would let me up on a floor and ordered a bed brought down for me so I would not have to lay on one of those uncomfortable ER beds. He admitted me and called in the GI docs I would need. I cannot say enough for Lexington Medical Center in Lexington SC. They were so good to me. That is the way all hospitals should be, but unfortunately they are not. I hope you will find something better and I hope you feel much better. Take care! Guest guest
Kara, I'm so sorry that you had such a bad experience at the ER. I have plenty of hugs for you.. Unfortunately, the medical community has this misconception that most people who have CP are alcoholics and that this entitles them to being mistreated because they deserve it. Which is totally wrong. Unfotunately, that leaves us as patients to have to deal with such bad behavior. . I highly suggest you make a complaint to JCAHO, who deals with such problems.JCAHO gives the accreditation that all hospitals need, so they take complaints very seriously. go to http:://www.jcaho.com. On their home page, they have a section called " Have a Complaint " . Go there and fill out all the information, etc. This is the best way to get the hospital to stop this type of treatment. Also, in the future, you can always go to a different ER. I do that. I have Kaiser insurance and I don't like the Valljeo Kaiser's GI staff, plus all my doctors are in Oakland Kaiser. I did this because I worked for Kaiser in their Oakland downtown offices, so Oakland Kaiser was only 5 minutes from work, so I was able to be back at work quickly after a doctor's appt. Plus, I have really good doctors and I prefer their staff. So, when i have a pancreas flare up, I go to the Oakland ER. I feel that the drive is worth it for better care. And don't worry about venting with us. That's one of the reasons we are here. To give people with our problems a place to come and vent, complain, yell, scream, or laugh without having to deal with people who don't understand what we are going through that cause us to need to do this. We will always be here for you. Kimber -- Kimber Vallejo, CA hominid2@... Note: All advice given is personal opinion, not equal to that of a licensed physician or health care professional.
