Hi y'all!

My Austin Bunionectomy that was originally scheduled to be done at

the Out Patient Surgery Center last week was cancelled by my

GI/Primary doctor, who was " looking out for my best interests " . He

has insisted that it be done at the hospital, instead, so, as of

midnight, tonight, I'm NPO and due to report to the hospital at 6:00

a.m.

tomorrow morning.

The hospital where the Podiatry surgeon practices is in Beaufort,

which is a one hour trip via car. If we could take the boat, it

would only be about 20 minutes.....LOL!, but I imagine it might be a

bit too cold for that! There's even a large dock on the hospital

grounds, but

I don't imagine they have too many patient's arriving that

way.....wouldn't

that be cool?

I'm not too thrilled about this change in plans, since my husband has

to leave for work first thing Friday morning, and I will be without

extra help. The way we had it set up before, he was going to be off

the first four days after the surgery so he could have helped me out.

I'm not permitted to drive for the first 5 days, and hate the thought

of

being stranded here in the house, with only three cats and an outside

dog for

company....but I'll survive. Couldn't even find a good selection of

video

movies for this downtime, but I do have the painting still on it's

easel and all

that sewing set aside, so I'll have enough to keep me busy.

I've got to run to the PM doc's today to get all my pain med refills,

and still don't know what the surgeon may recommend for pain

afterward. My

meds all ran out today, and I'm disappointed because I haven't been

ablto adjust to the reduction in the duragesic as well as I'd hoped.

I dropped down to a 50 mg. patch, worn for the full 72 hours, instead

of

the 48 that I'd been using it for before, and it hasn't worked out

that

well. Although I've been able to tolerate it, I've had to increase

my usage

of the Oxycodone for BT pain, so it may not be possible for me to

accomplish

my original plan of getting off the fentanyl completely. I've still

got

several months to keep working on it, and the whole idea of the

reduction was

mine to start with, so it's not as though I'm being forced to comply

by a

doctor.

Anyway, that's my update for now. I just wanted to let you know what

was happening with me, and that I may be off the board for a couple

days adjusting to some new pain from the foot surgery. My operating

time is Thursday, Mar. 3rd at 7:30 a.m. EST, so I'd welcome some

prayers

sent my way, for anyone who believes.

I'll be back online later tonight, and then back again after the

surgery as soon

as I'm upright and sober......haha!! Those surgery drugs always spin

me

around for awhile.....thank heavens.....can't imagine doing this

thing without

'em!!!

With love, hope and prayers,

Heidi,

Good luck with your surgery tomorrow, and hope you are okay at home

for the 5 days after. I'd be calling and ask her to polish

up on her nursing skills at your place during those 5 days *L*

At least you will be able to walk without pain and whatever else

this does to your feet afterwards. And it is especially good that

you have a doctor who is as cautious as he is. There are some who

aren't and the patient suffers for it.

Take care
