Guest guest
I'm so sorry that your pain has gotten so bad that you will now have to see a surgeon. I had the head of my pancreas removed in the spring of last year. I had aBeger procedure is a whipple that does not remove the antrum of the stomach or the duodenum. When the doc was trying to talk me into the surgery I refused the whipple because it has so much anastomosis involved withe all the removals that I was concerned about it. He told me about the Beger and I agreed. My pancreatic head was completely fibrotic. The Beger was a complete success, but unfortunely it was too late the disease had already spread to the ducts and side branches. sounds to me like your doc is doing the right thing at the right time. Not a lot of surgeons do the Beger because the whipple had become the standard. The recover is much easier, the less they remove the better in my opinion. Please talk with them about it and see what they say. As a matter of fact, funny fact, after i had the total the surgeon in Cincy said twice that the Beger I had was the " most beautiful " one he had ever seen and he hated to change it. He brought in residents to look at it before he made any cuts so they could see it done the right way. he referred to it as " beutiful " twice. Sure hope his total is beautiful as well...LOL. I was always told true beauty lies within...LOLOLOL. Also I agree withyou, I dont have money to throw away either. I dont know why pain docs are so particular. It has to be the control substances thing. I know you have a history of addiction so that is more then likely why they are being so strict. Oxycontin is a very very strong drug and very very addictive; but it is very affective. If your pain is that bad, go for it. I dont know how it will affect you mentally, you may not be as alert as you are with the lortab, thats is a big jump. Is there something else sort of in between the two that they may suggest? Dilaudid always worked well for me and I had no withdrawels from it when I stopped taking it. It didn't blurr me mentally either. I did get another script for it the other day for break through because I was taking way way too much vicodan, the issue was the acetomenophen not the hydrocodone. Too much acetomenophen is toxic to the liver. I cant help you with the pain clinic issues as I have never been referred to a pain specialist. I dont understand why they cant let you keep the lortab and use something stronger for break through. Guess they must have some FDA rules on it or something. They are watch like crazy, really does make it hard for chronic pain sufferers. Hopefully, when/if you have any surgery that will all become a thing of the past. When will you seee the surgeon? Please let meknow how it goes. You have had a rough couple of years and I have been so impressed with your strenght. You are one heck of a woman, Patty and I admire you tremendously. Dont let those pain docs make you feel any less then the strong woman you are, dont let them hold some mistakes you have made in the past against you and dont you think that because of your past that you deserve any less treatment then anybody else. I would want you in my corner thats for sure. They call it ancient history for a reason. Warmly and with respect,
Guest guest
, Thank you so much for your encouraging words. I can't take Dilaudid because I had a bad allergic reaction. I was given it in the ER and all of a sudden I couldn't swollow and started itching and getting splotchy rash all over. I have been on the Oxycontin since July of last year but the oxycodone is new. I am doing alot better today but it seems that the oxycodone is making me more aggitated and short tempered. I didn't feel this way with the lortab. I am so nervous about having the surgery. Money is so tight and just thinking about being off work is very scarey. I do have short term and long term disability through my work. You were talking about your surgery and mention anastmosis. What is that? How big was the incision on your abdomen and how long did you stay in the hospital? Anytime the word surgery comes up I get a sick feeling in my stomach. Patty Corydon, IN goes.
