The reason we are putting together a planning committee for the Symposium, is to make sure that the event is what the people want. As our 5th Symposium, it become difficult to identify the topics and speakers that will address the concerns and interests of beginners as well as those persons who have lived with this disease for a while. Are people interested in having it videotaped? The Symposium is two days long, generally 9am to 5pm. Since there is a request for more 'down' time to network and get to know each other, that limits the time for clinical and technical information? There will be ~ eight sessions that need to be decided on whether they should be lecture sessions, social / group participation activities, or less formal networking events. Should lunch be own your own, catered, or? Should there be an evening activity? Feedback thus far says that at least one session per day should be casual networking. So that limits the speaker sessions to six. There are a hundred possible topics, which ones do people want? Pancreatitis 101? Pharmacology? Surgery? TP/ICT? Alternative Medicine? Quantum Healing & Medicine? Pain Management? Research? Nutrition? ERCP? Therapeutic Endoscopy? Disability? Psychosocial Issues? Long Term Complications? Diabetes? Cadaver Pancreas Transplants? Depression? Pancreatitis Advocacy? General Issues of Chronic Illness? Tours of the ERCP Deepartment? Etc. Here is an example of the schedule: Friday 9:00am Introduction & Day Overview 9:30am Session I 11:00am Session II 12:30pm Lunch 2:00pm Session III 3:30pm Session IV 5:00pm Closing Words Saturday 9:00am Introduction & Day Overview 9:30am Session I 11:00am Session II 12:30pm Lunch 2:00pm Session III 3:30pm Session IV 5:00pm Closing Words Karyn E. , RN, Exec.
