Guest guest
Hi y'all, Just thought I'd let you all know how the " Gimp " was coming along. I had my stitches taken out yesterday and impressed the podiatrist with how well I'm able to wiggle my toes. I have to do PT exercises with the big toe, 25 reps, twice a day, of bending it forward and backward to the " hurting point " to keep the scar tissue from freezing up, (I think). The only problem, which is a good problem, I guess, is that it doesn't hurt when it's bent as far back as it can physically go! The doctor did the exercise for me first. He told me to let him know when it started to hurt as he bent back my toe, and he had it bent back as far as it would go and I still hadn't said anything. So he said that was great, and to just do the exercises two times a day. There is stiffness when I bend it forward, but still no pain......wonderful! So I'm being a compliant patient and faithfully doing my toe PT twice each day. I've got two blisters on two of my other toes, which I think is a result of the way they were clamped during the surgery, since they were there the first time I took off my dressing. I have to keep a close eye on those because of my diabetes, but they're old bruises and not infected, so I don't anticipate that there will be any problems. I still can't shower........ug! But at least now I can immerse my foot into the tub when I bathe, so that was the first thing I did yesterday after I got home from my appointment. It felt sooooo good!! I have a new bandage that pulls the toe out away from the foot, which apparently will realign it into the correct position, and I still have to wear my delightful surgical shoe for another 2 weeks. At least it's only 4 weeks in the shoe, instead of the 6 that the other doctor said it would be. Then I graduate to athletic shoes, or " tennis shoes " , as the doc called them. I went out and found a perfect pair of narrow athletic shoes that I hope will pass the test for suitability, because I think I have to wear those for a few months at minimum. So that's the news from the foot patient. As long as I don't start toe dancing I'll be in good shape...... Just as the foot healed up my CP started to flare, and I was afraid I'd never see a clear day again, but the pain was short-lived and gone within three days, so I'm doing okay.
