Guest guest
First of all WOW!!!!!! I have never experienced anything quite like this. Kudo's for all the thoughtful responses and the ones' that said like it is....... My thoughts regarding this poster: 1). why did he join to begin with? Was he looking for help or support or to somehow show a moral superiority? 2). I also wonder if there is a reason for such a hard line concerning alcoholism? Is it because he is in denial over his own past use of alcohol? or is it because he could have been mistreated in the hospital by doctors and nurses who considered his bout of pancreatitis as being induced by alcoholism so he is still angry about being judged without deserving it (not that I believe alcoholics should be judged or mistreated - that they deserve it somehow). 3). As far as not deserving diabetes, as used in his example...if it is adult on-set diabetes....then a thinking person can make a good case that this is also a " deserved " disease. That is, it is associated with obesity, and that too is a choice (if you think as he does) and that no one forces obese people to eat in excess so therefore they too are " undeserving of care " and it is not a real " disease " . (I do not believe this logic, I am just pointing out how his example can be used to justify any life-style choice disease and that taken to the extreme, all diseases are " choices " . I am surprised that there is such malice and anger from a person that has just joined. I agree with Mark, that Karyn needs to figure out a way to tone down these posts. I'd hate to out-right ban someone who is in the process of working through things...but it seems that his intent is to hurt, not aid others. And as far as how I got pancreatitis - it is irrelevant. It is my business, not a matter to be judged on. The people that need to know, and that I want to know, know. And it shouldn't nor does it, influence how I am treated or loved.
