Guest guest
I am so very very sorry. What a horrible ordeal you have endured. I am glad that ya'll called Debbie ( I know her well) she is a wonderful nurse. Take it ver very easy and let your hematoma rest. If your not feeling bette by monday I would give them another call just to be on the safe side. They do usually resolve on their own but it can take some time. Do you know what part of your pancreas is most affected. Is it the head, the tail or a drainage issue. Those are questions you may need to answer in order to decide whether or not to continue to look at surgical options. A whipple will remove the head, a distal pancreatectomy will remove the tail, and a Puestow procedure deals with drainage issues within the main pancreatic duct. Your tail must be ok, as that is where a majority of the islets are found and they already cleared you in that regard. Perhaps a puestow or whipple. I had a Beger procedure which is the removal of the head without removing all the other stuff that the whipple does. As far as staying on long term, life long narcotics that is something that a pain management doctor would deal with. There are lots of people that do it and there are not too damaging life long effects. However with liver problems that may be a different story. I'm not sure. Did they reccomend you see a liver doctor to deal with that? Or is it something that might resolve on its own in time. I had a MRCP about 2 years ago and my liver was fatty, but had another one a year ago and it was not. I asked the doc and he said I was a lot fatter myself 80 pounds fatter, then and I had lost the fat in my liver. Go figure, didn't know you could do that. So guess that makes me skinny on the inside...LOL. Anyway, I would think talking to a hepatic doctor would be a good idea. You could still have a total without islets, a lot of people do and are ok. Sue from the UK has and she has gone back to work. She also comes on here often. There is another support group on yahoo for total pancreactomy survivors, you can go on there and ask all the questions you want. You may not end up brittle at all but if your panc continues to deteriorate you could without warning. That is a long way down the road tho. darling, I know you just feel shock and are really upset right now, but thank goodness they are so thorough in thier testing. I am so sorry again and I truly hope you feel better soon. If there is anything else I can do to help you please dont hesitate. I will keep you in my prayers and hope that your hematoma clears up.
