Lily,

Thanks for that info! That is really interesting about the flax seed. That

is one thing they told us to use after gastric bypass surgery.

Thanks,

Hey all,

I went to a pain management seminar last week for work for one day. I learned a

few interesting facts that I thought you all might want to know.

According to the pain specialist at one of the large teaching hositals who put

on this presentation:

The new Fentyl (sp ) patches that have recently been introduced to the market to

be in competition with the Duragesic patches are not as good as the Duregesic.

The Fentyl patches leak and are not as effective. The hopsital is going to try

to stop using them but insurance is pushing them to try them. patients are

complaining that it is not helping. So be aware.

Ultram ( which is kinda in the Darvocet type of family ) will increase serotonin

which will help increase the endorphins which is the body's natural pain

killers. So Ultram may actually be of help for our GI type of pain. I have had a

few people on this board say that the Ultram helped more than the Vicoden,,, now

we know why. Vicoden is a stronger med but works differently in the body.

The more sleep you get the more your body makes Endorphins but you need to reach

stage 4 in your sleep cycle in order for the endorphins to be released . This is

at least 45 minutes.

Flaxseed oil or pills will help decrease pain as well. BE CAREFUL. The oil which

is the best will cause major diarrhea. So buy the seeds and sprinkle on your

food. Need to buy the good quality kind.

Hope this info helps someone.

OK Nurse Lilly,

How do we convince the insurance company that the generic is not as

good? I am doing very well with the duragesic patch but just got a

refill and insurance forced the generic on me. If this patch does not

work then my pain free time is over. What's a body to do?

Thanks All,
