Guest guest
3 weeks ago I went to my pcp for my 3 month post op check up. They drew a ton of blood to look at everything. 2 weeks ago my husband went to the same physician for his yearly and they drew a ton of blood on him. Well his lab results have come in the mail today. They are all fine, perfect actually. I was really worried about his PSA and it was 0.74 which is excellent. Anyway why haven't they sent me mine. When I was there the doctor, whom I have known for a while, said " I dont know what to do with you, never had a pt who has had this surgery " . Anyway, every other time I got my labs back pronto, now I am starting to get a little paranoid. What if something is wrong and she is trying to reach the other docs to talk about it. I have been in tears all day. I am so scared that something will go wrong. Everything has gone perfectly and I am so happy to be putting all this behind me. The last 2 years every time I had anything done it just turned out badly, so I dont have the best history of good luck at all. Maybe its just paranoia, once bitten twice shy sort of thing. But dang nabit, I want my labs. I still have pain after I eat but was told that was normal. It scares me tho. I just want to move on and put all this behind me. Also, I have not taken any insulin in about a month, my fsbs's have been great, right where they should be. Well the last 3 days they have creeped up. Tonight it has stayed in the 160's since dinner at 6:30 and I didn't eat anything bad. I'm wondering if I should inject myself with a little insulin. This morning my fastin blood sugar was 127 when it had been in the 90's the last few weeks. I am really getting scared. What if there is something going on with the iselts or my liver. Paranoia again. Sometimes I really wish I wasn't a nurse and didn't know what I know. Like I told Fliss the other day, never underestimate the power of ignorant bliss. Sorry to go on so but at least ya'll dont have to hear me whine, just read it..LL Well thanks for letting me get it off my chest. Hope all of ya'll are doing ok. Thanks, Chrissy
Guest guest
Hi , Isn't the imagination the worst at times? Especially when it can feed off from cold hard facts and prior experience? Taming that beast is one of the hardest things a human has to do. I guess that is why horror films are so popular...it is just the expression of our innermost wild creatures. As far as your lab tests from the PCP visit...I have to agree with both and Dave. " No news is good news " as far as there not being anything critically wrong....but of course, you cannot rule out the abnormality that is not immediately threatening but may not bode so well in the long term. However, if there is something not quite so good showing up, you have the knowledge and experience to figure out how to handle it. Just look at what you have already faced and overcame. And keep in mind the resiliency of the human body. What may be abnormal for the perfectly healthy person, may be your new norm.....and it is most likely within tolerable limits. I think of the WWII soldiers in the Pacific theater whose liver enzymes were so out of whack that they were grossly jaundiced....but they were kept on the front lines and performed at above normal levels. Now if this were you or I, safe and sound at the home front, we most likely would have been hospitalized. So everything has to be taken in its appropriate context. In addition, it is very true that specialized tests may have been sent out to a reference lab and this can take weeks or even up to a month, to get results back (depending on the nature of the test). Hopefully you will hear one way or the other soon....and that everything will be good news. As far as the blood sugar......I know that activity level and health status can affect it's stability. Do you think that you had a burst of activity yesterday that may account for the slight increase? or do you think that you are coming down with a cold or something that may be stressing your system? Did your kids do something that got you to out of sorts? I would expect that just the act of living day to day, week to week, etc will create different curves of daily blood sugars and that after a certain amount of time you will get a sense of these trends. Maybe even just the lenghtening of daylight is causing the whole pituatary - parathyroid - adrenal system to up-regulate thus causing a greater consumption of your energy factory. Hopefully, the swings will even out and lower themselves to less aniety producing levels. Healthy concern and watchful waiting while you monitor the situation is the act of the moment! Laurie (PS do you sleep walk? could that hot fudge sundae not have been a dream after all? Do you have chocolate stains on your pillowcase? are you missing a carton of fudge ice cream in your secret hideout? Is the cat following your around the house begging for more " licking-the-used-bowl-treat " and you have no idea what he is talking about? hmmmm...if so, you may have discovered the answer. The mid-night, sleep-walking, chocolate-hot-fudge-with-marshmallow-and-a-cherry-on-top-sun dae eating monster has come to life! LOL The cure? Piling up aluminum cans outside your bedroom door. It stops all midnight roamers, as my brother discovered when he lived at home with me, his sleep walking sister)
Guest guest
Chrissy, They should get you the results! I would call them and ask. Maybe they can tell you something right then. Especially with your blood sugars going back up. Don't wait! Let them know. I am praying you are fine!!
