Hi ,

5.4 is too low, it would take quite awhile for you to increase that

level just with oral iron tabs. If they do not want to do a

transfusion, how about Procrit? I had a low hemoglobin of 8. I had 6

weeks of once weekly Procrit and that brought it to 14, it now stays

around 12. The Hematologist said that iron tabs alone woukd not help

when my " tank " was so low. So I took iron tabs 3 times a day, and

weekly Procrit, and it worked great! I have been anemic for years,

and since the Procrit last August, I have done so much better.

I really would ask for a transfusin or Procrit if your Hgb is 5.4!!

Take Care,

Debbie, CA.
