Guest guest
I started with intro diet. I went to cooked apples 3rd day. For tomorrow's meals I peeled and deseeded apples but forgot to cook. My daughter is tube fed and so I blend up her entire food for the day and then seperate in to 6 meals. She has been " eating " Chicken broth, chicken, carrots, hamburger, beef broth, eggs, with the last thing being added is the apples. I started the scd legal multi vitamin from Kirkman on day 3.Although she has not been diagnosed with autism, she does have seizures, dev delay, and does not make good eye contact. Since starting this I believe her eye contact is improving and she is not having as many seizures around feeding times. My questions are: I have not witnessed the die off everyone is talking about, no diarrhea, she is making bowel movements (not every day)that are soft/formed. The one thing she is coughing, which is not usual. Is this okay? Can I go ahead on day 7 and start with 1/8 tsp of scd yogurt since there is no die off? Lastly, will the mistake I made with the apples mean I need to stay with just doing cooked apples a little longer before moving on to cooked pears? Guest guest
Dear Sheryl, I caught this post and noticed that your daughter had been diagnosed with mitochondrial disease. Doctors think that this could be our daughters problem. Her symptoms match 80%. Next week we are off to Atlanta Georgial to see Dr. Shoffner at Horizon Molecular Medicine. We have been eating SCD for over a year now. It has helped her much. I am glad to see that it is helping you too. We are looking forward to understanding more about her issues. Can you please contact me off serve. They have talked about doing IV supplemental nutrtion with her. Her stomach appears to be shutting down...she can eat over 3400 calories a day and it does not get utilized. Much of it is undigested...even if it is easy to digest foods. Enzymes have helped a bit...but as you know...with mitochondrial disease there is more to it. I would appreciate talking to you off serve. ajbunce@... Thank you! They seem to be related, for some people, to die off. > Can I go ahead on day 7 and start with 1/8 tsp of scd yogurt since > there is no die off? I would first wait and see if she has any reaction or change in symtoms with the raw apples. If there is no reaction than I'd start with 1/8 tsp of SCD yogurt. After you introduce it watch for reactions and slowly increase the amounts. << Lastly, will the mistake I made with the apples mean I need to stay > with just doing cooked apples a little longer before moving on to > cooked pears? >> See how she reacts to the apples. If all is well than try cooked , peeled pears. Sheila, SCD Feb. 2001, UC 23 yrs mom of Em and Dan
