Guest guest
Thank you all so very much for responding. Poncho, if liver and onions tasted half as good as it smells cooking I would eat it all the time,,, yuck! Ya'll are right tho, a hgb of 5.4 is dangerously low. The nurse didn't seem to be alerted at all and I am beginning to wonder if she even had the right numbers. Maybe she just said 5 and it was really a 9. A girl can hope anyway. If it is in fact a 5.4 I am going to be really ticked off with that doctor. Those labs were drawn a month ago and that is something I should have been called about. If it is that low, I think I need to get a new doctor. I did send an email to the surgeon at MUSC that has taken care of me for so long. He has access to my labs. I had forgotten to ask what the hct was, thought about that after I had hung up the phone. See even nurses loose objectivity when it comes to themselves or love ones. Laurie and Poncho, I dont think I have an internal bleed, that would have been evident by now, in my stools at the very least. But I had been terribly weak and this morning I had visual changes. Just marked that up to getting old(er). I did buy some iron pills when I was shopping for Easter Bunny stuff today. I eat well so I dont think that is an issue. I am still loosing weight, but a few weeks ago it jumped up considerably. I was really puffy then and thought it to be just that. Maybe the situation has already taken care of itself. Debs I appreciate the suggestion, if it is that low I think a retest is in order. Hopefully I wont need anything else. Hopefully the nurse just screwed up. I had a total with iselts 4 months ago so maybe its just normal for the iron to fluncuate. I have been taking a MVI with iron for some time now. Well I'm hping its just an error some where. However it would explain, as pointed out, this mental confusion thingy..LOL OHh what was I talking about again...LLOL Thanks ya'll I really apprecaite the info. I knew I could count on ya'll to help out. Take care ya'll. Chrissy
Guest guest
Hi Chrissy, I have had a personal experience of internal blood loss (significantly) that was absolutely not reflected in how I felt, activity level, and not evident in stool condition. It was only diagonised by a hemocult test and subsecquent blood test. I think it is dependent on exactly where the blood loss occurs in the GI tract. The higher in the tract, the less evident it is except for testing. Best wishes, Poncho - GA
