The packaged liquid egg whites with nothing added are legal. I use " Simply Egg Whites. " ( I live in Ontario, Canada) Crisp and Crunchy Meringues Basic method: Beat the egg whites with an electric whisk, until very stiff. Gently warm the honey until it becomes runny. Drizzle the slightly warmed honey into the egg whites, while beating continuously. Gently fold in the other ingredients, then pipe or spoon the mixture in small blobs onto a greased baking tray. You do not need to actually BAKE them, instead you dry them out. Oven temperature: 120 degrees Celsius, until the blobs are crisp and dry. This will take a long time - at least an hour. Then turn off the oven and allow the food to cool inside - this adds even more drying time. MERINGUES • 3 large egg whites • 1/8 teaspoon salt • 1/4 cup honey • 1/2 teaspoon SCD-legal vanilla You need to butter the pan and make small meringues. Cecilia Melbourne, Australia Carol F. Guest guest
Welcome to the group Budsmom, << Hello there, my 4 yr old son has been gfcf for two years now, and in > the past few months salicylate free. So, since it first appears to me that the > flours used on this diet are primarily nut flours, what flours CAN I > use for my son?>> For those with gut inflammation SCD can help tremendously. We generally suggest that people start with the intro diet and then slowly add in foods. Small amounts of each food until you know it is tolerated and then gradually increase the food. The foods you add in after the intro should be easy to digest for the injured gut - peeled, and cooked vegetables. As the gut starts to heal the body will be able to tolerate more variety and more complex foods. There's a bread recipe at http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/pecanbread/files/ " Nut free diary free bread " that is pretty easy to digest if he tolerates eggs. Just add whatever vegetable (s) he tolerates. I really like it with ripe avocadoas the vegetable. << ALSO, isn't block cheese used on this diet? Is that considered a > product with casein in it or low in it? >> Cheese does have casein. In the back of Breaking the vicious cycle (BTVC) p180 legal cheeses are listed. They are very, very low lactose. Homemade SCD yogurt also has casein in it but the casein structure is easier to digest than the casein in cheese. Goat yogurt is the easiest to digest. Also legal goat cheese is easier to digest than legal cow cheese. Sheila, SCD Feb. 2001, UC 23 yrs mom of and
