Guest guest
Tuesday was my bi-annual appointment with my Endocrinologist. My main concerns were my diabetes HbA1c score and my cholesteral test results. Ever since I got diabetes, my bad cholesterol scores have been increasing, much to my frustration and dismay. Three years ago my LDL was 58, and now it's 131, and my Endo is not pleased with this. My total score was 218, that was also up from last time. The doctor says that anyone with diabetes needs to keep their LDL at 70 or less, so he's put me on Vytorin to being it down. He knows that I do all I can by eating a low fat diet, and I am still below my weight level for my height, so it's not caused by my eating habits. He said that it was quite obviously genetic and that my body produces the cholesterol on it's own. He said to expect to feel some muscle soreness and muscle pain as a side effect of the new meds. My good news is that this time my HbA1c was even better. This is the best that I've done so far since I got diabetes. Before diagnosis I was at 11.8, then after my DKA the scores were 5.5, 5.7. 5.6 and now the lowest so far of 5.4!! The doctor was delighted with my control and told me that " whatever you're doing, keep doing it just as you are! " Knowing that this seems to be something I can control most of the time, and know what to do when it goes get too high, feels really good. It makes up somewhat, for the problems with the CP that I can't seem to control when times get tough, like today and yesterday. I've been spending most of the time sleeping, resting or complaining.....the danged pain in my belly just won't let up! I know it will be disappointing if once again I have to bow out of family plans because of this. My SIL had invited me to a special Easter lunch at the country club with her family after we get out of church on Sunday that I was really looking forward to......even if it does rain! Since my daughter and son in law are visiting the other PIL this holiday, and Austin are too far away in Altus, OK to be here, and hubby has to fly, (of course), I was feeling left sort of out of the loop until her invitation came through. Oh well, this, too, will pass. Hope everyone has a great weekend...I'm sending along special prayers and well wishes for Janet and Jim, both in hospitals thousands of miles apart, but never far from our thoughts.
