Guest guest
Hi Jean, I will keep trying to get on 's web page. I have been on before when she had her TP and left messages. Thanks for your input. It was a difficult decision to have the TP. I was 40 when i had it done, and my kids were 16 and 12. I spent a couple of days in the intensive care unit, and in the high dependency unit, which i think is pretty standard for this type of surgery. It is a big op, and takes a while to recover. For the diabetes i have 4 injections of insulin each day. I wouldn't say it is brittle, but i do have to monitor closely, and adjust either insulin dose or food intake accordingly. Took bit of getting used to at first, but now it is just part of my life. I, personally, have found it to be worth it for the improvement to my quality of life. As far as - are you diabetic if you have part of your pancreas removed - well, no clear cut answer i'm afraid. It depends on how much of the pancreas is removed and the condition of that which is left. I originally had the tail of the pancreas removed but wasn't diabetic. although tests before my TP showed i was developing glucose intolernace. It sounds as though would benefit from the opinion of a pancreatic surgeon. Please tell her not to lose faith in doctors. Before my TP i was in and out of hospital with frequent attacks, felt really low and the future really didn't look very bright. Getting a second opinion was the best thing i ever did. Sometimes it is so hard to make the decision to seek another opinion as you're scared you wont get anywhere and it will just cause you more hassle. Take care. Hope feels a bit better soon. Guest guest
Hi I am not sure what could be wrong,,,this takes me directly to her opening page of her site. Try copying and pasteing the address that I put in. How bad was it having the pancreatomy, how bad is the diabetes, can you keep it under control? This is to anyone, if only one part of the pancreas is bad and it is removed, are you diabetic? I know the islet cells are in the tail, so if the tail is alright and left, will a person be a diabetic? Since cannot get the money to have the TP/ICT, I am wondering if this is the route for her to take. I asked her tonight what part of her pancreas is effected and she said no doctor had ever told her the exact part that was bad. Seems like she has gone to doctors and really knows little of about what part is effected, I wish she would go to Indy so badly.
