Hi all,

My wife was diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis about three years ago

after six painful months of bouncing between doctors who had no clue

about what was wrong with her. Since her diagnosis, she has cut out

alcohol completely and has been taking pancreatic enzymes (currently

Pancrease MT 10) and acid blockers (currently Aciphex). Thankfully,

she has been asymptomatic since she started treatement.

We are going to have our first baby in a couple of months and are

doing research on breastfeeding. From what we've read, Aciphex gets

passed through breast milk and may impact the baby's digestion. We

would really like it if my wife could breastfeed, but we are worried

about going off of the Aciphex. Has anyone else been in this

position?

Any idea if the Aciphex is detrimental to the baby? Are there

alternative acid blockers that are not?

Thanks so much.

Adam

Adam,

These are questions that should be addressed to your wife's

gastroenterologist. For your personal research, any time you may

question any medicine that's been prescribed, a good site to research

individual medicines, their side effects and warnings, is:

http://www.rxlist.com

With love, hope and prayers,
