Guest guest
I just found out about sun butter from a family in our home school co-op who has a child with many allergies(nuts being one of them). We have another family in the group who has a son with life threatening and very, very sensitive to peanuts. He can't even touch something that touched something that touch a contaminated product. He will die within minutes. Anyway, our group found sun butter which is made from sunflower seeds. This would be an advanced food for SCDers since it is made from a seed, but could be something to use when the healing reaches that point. It would be a great substitute if your child is allergic to nuts, or your school has a no nut policy. We have found it at Super Target, Wal Mart Super Center, and many of our local chains here in the southeastern US. One grocery chain did not have it, and a family has requested they start stocking it. They were glad to coblige. I hope this helps other. Oh, the mom said it isn't quite like nut butter if you just eat it off the spoon, so I don't know how it would taste as a baking replacement. She said it tastes pretty much just the same on a sandwich and such though. Meleah
Guest guest
Just be careful, pre SCD I tries this product.. it was o long ago I don't remember, but I think it may have traces of soy in it, and may have been producted in a facilitiy that does nuts.
