My husband finally got to see a specialist at Emory this week. He

supported Mark's specialist in our home town - which was a relief.

But he did increase the enzymes - he doesn't want the pancreas

working at all. But he put Mark on Nexium. He said with the

diebetic side of this disease, it causes the digestive system to

slow down. Normally your stomach should empty up to 1/2 of it's

contents within the first hour of eating. With diebetis it could

take close to 3 hours to empty 1/2 of the contents. He feels that

some of Mark's pain is all the acid and food sitting in his stomach

for extended amount of time.

He also told us that it could take almost 2 years for the nerve

endings to heal after a severe attack of pancreatitis.

Mark is breathing a little easier - when you have 2 specialist back

each other up, and one is from Emory...it takes off a lot of stress.

Of course we still have a while to go for him to be a lot better.

He told us that the joint pain Mark is suffering is most likely from

being so sedentary and from not being active - which is not

something that can be treated unless Mark is feeling well enough to

get up and move around more.

I am working on getting him a small lap dog for company. (He hates

cats). So taking the dog out would be an incentive to get up and

move around - plus the " pet therapy " might help with

his " depression " of dealing with the chronic pain and the entire

situation.

Hope you are all feeling well. You are in my prayers daily.
