Guest guest
Hi all, I have noticed that some of you have been discussing feeding tubes. I had a J-tube placed the end of October and it didn't work properly so ten days later I went back in and they took that one out and put another one in. Therefore, I have had the tube in for five months. It was put in to rest my pancreas. Has anyone had one in for that long? It drains constantly and it hurts. I have had several infections also. Is there anyone out there who have had feeding tubes? and how long did you have them in for? My thoughts and prayers are with you all. T. Guest guest
Hi , I haad one in for about 3 months, it was a g-j tube. That thing hurt so much and I couldn't believe that they put those things in old people! The flange that holds the tube next to your skin can be pulled back by the doctor so its not so painful. They put in in while you are laying down then when you stand up or sit the skin can roll on it making it tighter. Have them loosen it up some it will decrease the pain, drainage and the risk of infection. I am shocked they havent done that yet. It was still weepy at the stoma area but not nearly as bad. Yuck I hated the thing. They took mine out when I had the Beger otherwise I probably would have kept it in until I had the total. The doc in Cincy put another one in afte the total and wanted to send me home with it. I fussed a blue streak and he pulled it, he laughed at me! It was capped the entire time I was there, never was used once and I felt no need for it to stay. I didn't think it was funny. Maybe I should put one in him and see who laughs then...LOL they didn't tell you how long you would need it. Have you gained any weight while on the feedings. I sure did not that I needed to gain weight but was terribly weak and malnurished. It did make me feel stronger and kind of thought I needed one after the Beger as I got so sick but I was not going to be the one to bring it up *S*. Ask them to loosen it up some, especially if you have gained a little weight, it will help. Hope you feel better, christine
