Guest guest
I was making goat's milk yogurt, and I should have removed it from the yogurt maker last night. However, I wasnt't feeling well so I went to bed early and totally forgot. So, the yogurt was in the yogurt maker for about 36 hours, rather than 24. Is it ruined? I know the instructions say " at least 24 hours " but how long is too long? Thanks so much! (mum to 4 atypical Rett)
Guest guest
Hi , <<...the yogurt was in the yogurt maker > for about 36 hours, rather than 24. Is it ruined? I know the > instructions say " at least 24 hours " but how long is too long?>> From: " Knowledge base " at http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/ under " Yogurt Faq " : " What happens if I leave it in too long? Up to 29 hours is fine, but after 30 hours, it starts to kill the good bacteria. After 36 hours, it will not last as long in the refrigerator. " So, your 36 hr yogurt is still good to eat, it won't last two weeks in your fridge and has a reduced probiotic count (compared to 24-29 hr yogurt. If you still have yogurt after a week and a half or so it would be best to freeze it (ice cream etc) or cook/bake with it.
