Guest guest
Angie I had all my octreotide injections in ' clinic. I dont think most pcp have RN's on the staff and if I recall correctly LPN's are not supposed to give IM injections. I am not sure exactly why, I know a lot of LPN's that could out nurse a lot of RN's I have worked with. Maybe you could give a call and explain the situation and he or can call your PCP and explain the injection. Also there may be some issues with your insurance copany as well, making sure it is administered by a pancreatic phycisians practice since it is a pancreatic hormone; sandostostatin (sp?) something like that. It is also not given very often and may not be readily available in their clinics. How far are ya'll from Chas? Hey if they need an RN to stick you, I will grab the meds and a syringe and ride on up to your place, you are buying lunch tho *S*. I would get Lilly to pray for my getting a postion but I dont think she wants her Mommy to go back to work. I think she is just getting used to having one at home that is upright and can cook! An insincere prayer is just a wish at best. Let me know if you do have to ride down, i will definetly meet you. > I have a question regarding octreotide. Where did you get the shot? Guest guest
Angie, my doctor had me give myself the injections, but I was only using the three times a day version, not the one that lasts months. Mainly this was because I am a diabetic, so I'm used to giving myself injections subcutainiously. Kimber -- Kimber Vallejo, CA hominid2@... Guest guest
Kimber, I will have to see if that is an option. I didn't realize they could do it that way. I have never given myself injections. But I have a great friend who is a nurse who would give them to me until I could learn to do it myself. Thanks for sharing that with me! Guest guest
Angie, I hope they let you, but it might depend upon which version of the octreotide they give you. I know the three times a day one is subcutanous (in the body fat), but I don't know about the one that lasts several months. That one may be intramuscular (in the muscle), which is harder to do. Let us know what your doctor decides. Kimber -- Kimber Vallejo, CA hominid2@... Note: All advice given is personal opinion, not equal to that of a licensed physician or health care professional.
