Guest guest
I got this the other day and thought I would share it. I don't know if any of you get mailings from them. Sorry if it is redundant. But if someone didn't see it I thought it may help. I hope I am not breaking any rules by sending this to the group! BCC: NOTOFARMS2 Right-click picture(s) to display picture options Dear Friends, How do you deal with chronic pain from pancreatitis? A couple of our members had suggestions for those with pain and for the families and friends of those with pain. " heat is my best friend, very hot showers, heating pads, and if you can't do those put a damp towel in microwave for a minute or two and and (with your shirt off of course) wrap it around, when your really hurting it helps very , very much. " For families and friends: DO NOT judge the person! Pain is not a sign of weakness or bad character. DO acknowledge the person's suffering. DO NOT pretend that you don't notice the struggle. DO treat the person with respect. DO NOT dwell on the future. High pain levels force the person to live in the present, so make the present pleasant. Be upbeat! DO offer assistance. Ask what you can do to help; make a phone call, run an errand. Visit on the worst days, encourage on the better days! DO NOT dwell on other problems. Allow togetherness time, with conversation, movie time, light topics. There are always good of some sort going on. (Sometimes the forest is truly through the trees.) DO remember the old golden rule. Think about how would you need to be supported should the situation be in reverse! LIVE, LOVE, SHARE, LAUGH and BE: TOGETHER. (All the time, partner!) Remember, Compassion means an awful lot, maybe more than you think! What are your suggestions? Also, please let us know if you know any children who suffer from chronic pancreatitis. We are interested in starting a support group for them.
