Guest guest
The narcotics we take for the pain can sometimes make us feel worse. You see narc are very constipating. I used to know the exact methodology but basically it affects the fluid balance in our bowell. Constipation can also be very aggrivating for panreatitis. The extra bowell contents can put pressure on the pancreas. You really need to be on a laxative. Colace is great and the generic brands are about $10 cheaper. You can buy it as a stool softener or with a laxative added to the stool softener. However, you bowells can become dependent upon it and will stop functioning without it. Miralax is a nonaddictive laxative that works wonderfully. Rob Hawes recommended it to me years ago and I have been taking it regularily. It is a tasteless powder that dissolves completely in any liquid. I have even mixed it in water when I couldn't tolerate anything else. It is a prescription medication and I am certain your GI must have heard of it. If your GI does not want to prescribe it, give a ring and ask him; tell him I said so! He has written it for me several times. Patty is right tho, it is a good idea to stop all food by mouth and allow your panc to rest a bit and cool down. Just keep watching your blood sugar and hold off on the insulin until you have eaten. If it gets too low, have a little koolaide then check it again in 60- 90 minutes. Have they talked with you about a sliding scale insulin dosage? Do you see and endocrinologist? Also drink water water water. Dehydration is a real problem for cp patients and it can help with the constipation. However, you really do need to be on a good laxative. I hope you feel better and do let me know if there is anything I can do. Warmly,
Guest guest
, Today has been a much better day. I finally have the pain and nausea back in control again. Some days are better than others, as we all know to well. Thank goodness! I couldn't make it without the good days. I have not tried the Miralax but I will call my doc about it. I try not to take laxatives for the addictive nature of them. I am not on insulin yet. I am taking precose. That is what endocronoligist put me on. I have gained about 5 pounds since he started me on that. My hypoglycemia is much better with that but I still have to eat every few hours. My blood sugar is still swinging pretty wildly but not as bad as it was. I drink lots of water. I stay thirsty with the diabetes and the donnatol makes me thirsty too. That and sugar free kool aid are the only things I drink. I can't do caffeine or carbonated beverages. I don't like the taste of tea anymore. When I had my gastric bypass my taste changed. And I don't drink coffee at all. I have never liked the taste of it. Do you take the miralax every day? I will call my doc tomorrow and see what he says. Thanks for everything!
