herbal remedies/supplements

Does anyone know if most herbal supplements/natural health supplements are

legal or illegal? There are none specifically I am wondering about, just in

general. I see a naturopath and a homeopath (more than I see an MD) for

remedies for seasonal allergies and other ailments, and since starting the

diet, I am concerned if they comply with the diet.

On the other hand, I know most (if not all) prescription and nonprescription

drugs are illegal (and toxic, with long lists of side effects), so I wonder

if really taking an illegal herbal supplement is a lesser evil than taking a

drug.

Any opinions and offerings of knowledge are welcome. And if perhaps there

is a resource on the web, I'd be greatful to be pointed in its direction.
